car choice opinion
car choice opinion
Here's a question that will bring very differing opinions but I am looking for some kind of consensus. I have been driving company cars for the last 40 years and they have been of the Taurus/Sable ilk. I now will be buying my own vehicle, looking for a little spice and am strongly considering the 2011 Mustang GT. Now here's the question.. I am 67 years old, 6'2" tall, 180 pounds and reasonably active and limber. Is the Mustang a car I should be comfortable in? I normally drive 2-3 200 mile days per week with those miles being a variety of freeway and surface streets with some challenging twisties thrown in. Southeastern Pennsylvania so I am expecting some difficulties in snowy weather.
Also I have been told by one person that their Mustang goes through a set of tires every 10,000 miles. What???

I test drove the SHO myself, it's pretty nice- very comfortable. And the ecoboost is very efficent, the paddle shifters are fairly decent as well- not optimal, but good for everyday driving. Miko Suede seats are a nice touch, roomy as hell, good mpg. Nice looks. Try a test drive!
Otherwise there's plenty of other choices to be had in the 40k price range...
if someones tires are only lasting 10K miles then they are either drag radials or some other high performance R compund type tire.
or they do alot of burnouts lol
I've had an agressive tire (goodyear eagle F1 GSD3s) for about 20K so far and they're still holding up just fine. I dont exactly go easy on it either.
the best thing i can think to do is go test drive and see what you like. the new mustang and the SHO are both awesome cars, just go see which one suits you best
you really can't go wrong with either

As for inclement weather driving, I couldn't tell you? All you guys above the Mason-Dixon live a in perpetual ice age, or so I'm told by all those fur clad horned helm barbarians passing through my AO

However, with a good set of all-season tires (M&S rated), the few times I've run into snow, there wasn't an issue.

pretty much decided
I guess I was just looking for someone to say snow is a minor annoyance. Snow would be a minor issue since I can choose to go out or not. I am tired of Taurus type vehicles even though the 2010 SHO is a different animal. Still leaning toward the Mustang.
Hell, get a good deal on a year end 2011 GT, get a good trade in and put some decent money down on it and take real good care of your new Mustang and if you dont like it, trade in or sell it out right once you've beat the depreciation on it.
While I cant say I've bought more than 3 new Mustangs in the last 8 years, I've never had negative equity in them , so it wasn't a bad deal when I went looking for a new one.
