A friend of mine has one and I have to say, it's the best small car I've seen, better than any Golf or TT in terms of build quality and handling. The design keeps it in line with the outgoing 3-Series, which I'm not a big fan of, but all those lines look much better in size small version on the 1-Series.
I will soon be in the market for a car in that class and I'm definitely considering it.

I'll be more interested when it shows up in coupe form. I have nothing against hatchbacks in general, but it isn't working for me here. The styling is just too puffy and cute for a BMW, perhaps the coupe will cure that.

BMW say they will only sell the 135i in the States, which has a better engine than the 3.5L V6 from MB (306 HP for the 135i compared to 272HP for the C320 Sportcoupe), but in principle they are in different classes.
My guess is that the BMW will sell better than the MB.
When I first saw it, I thought it was ok... but now seeing more sides of it and the powerplant it's going to come with, I like it!
twin-turbo, 3.0-liter inline-6.

How much will it be... and will I be able to afford it... it might go on my list of possible cars

I'll have to think about it... seeing your driving record scares me (james bond incident)
