Ok,

It's about time I asked. What exactly does Billet mean? I've thought it meant a certain style or that there was a Billet Mustang at one point that the Billet style is suppose to emulate. Then I see multiple mods labled as Billet, and I don't actually know if they are or not. Is there something that makes something billet versus something that isn't? It just isn't clear to me. Sorry for the n00b question.

Usually it means polished aluminun.

Check www.uprproducts.com. you'll get a full dose of it.

Billet and Bullitt are two different things.

Bullitt was a special edition Mustang in 2001 and Billet is as described above, and can be used to describe many different modifications (such as e-brake handles, misc. *****, caps, covers, etc.)

It means that the finished piece has been machined from a solid block of the source material, which is refered to as a billet.

Billet - Solid block of metal used in cutting wheels, and other accessories.

Bullitt - Special editon Mustang and name of movie from the 60's starring Steve McQueen and a green 67 (or 68?) green fastback and a 68 Charger.

Bullet - Something used in a gun or a Power Point presentation.

Yep, that is the correct definition. Get a stronger part due to the processing step when the metal is compressed into that billet.

Except that now the marketing groups of aftermarket manufacturers have jumped on the term to mean anything that has that look to it. Improper usage, but it sells stuff.

Very true. In fact the reason true billet items normally cost more is due to the amount of waste produced in the machining process. So you're paying for metal that gets swept away. However as mentioned above it can produce superior parts to forged and other methods of manufacture so the end result can be worth it. If it is truly made of billet.

1968 Highland Green S-Code Mustang GT fastback. Equipped with the 390 Cu in. V8 producing just about 325 HP.

Dark Highland Green was the color that Ford used on the 2001 Ford Mustang "Bullitt" SE.

I know... I'm such a dork
