Autosock Winter Driving aid

I recently was looking at a set of winter tires, living in Baltimore MD, there are minor snow storms now and then. We get 8 to 10 snows ranging from 1 inch to 1 foot.

A set of decent snow tires, rims with TPMS would be around $1500, though this would be the best option it is kinda pricey for a 3 month usage every year. Maybe someday I will get them.

In the meantime I went searching online for chains for sport cars, then I came across fabric snow chains. I came across this product called Autosock @ http://www.autosock.com/. They manufacture a temporary winter aid, I found the size for my 2011 Mustang GT 5.0, 19" rims with 245/45/R19 Pirelli P Zero Nero. I ordered my pair from eBay for about $90 shipped, they arrived in two days and two days later we had a 2" snow. I decided to try them since the roads iced up with about 1/4" of ice. I got only two socks as they are needed on the driving wheels. It was slightly tricky to install them but took about 10 minutes for two wheels, if I was to do it again I think I can do both wheels in less then 5 minutes.

Well I drove on flat roads, uphill and downhill on snow and ice covered roads, they were great, for granted you can't drive over 30 mph but its a piece of mind I was able to go up to the claimed speed when I could. I saw a Mercedes ML320 and Nissan Pathfinder that had slid and got into a fender bender but these things kept the rear wheel drive 412 hp beast on the road.

Even if they only last me one season I am more than sold on this product, if your Mustang or any other car is your year round driver this is worth the $90. If you live around where I am, I may not be as hilly as San Francisco but it is hilly and from me this product gets a five star rating.

Be sure to checkout the videos for this product on their website and YouTube. I got mine from eBay from a vendor named l2r2 or simpleautosports. These do not give the bumpy ride like snow chains do.

That's pretty nifty! Where I live don't need 'em, but... yeah, 'socked' away in the brain if I ever do.

/No, I really wasn't goin' after the pun, but... then it was there as I typed it. Sorry folks.

Pretty cool, to bad they dont have a sock to fit a 285 width tire, although I can get them for a 255 width tire (wouldn't that look crazy with a GT500 sporting rear tires on the front and front tires on the rear just to get around in the snow) - I wish they did as I dont have spare and the well makes for great place to stash stuff like this just in case. However like Houtex I live in an area that rarely gets snow.
