I'd be happy with minimal changes (steering wheel to port, etc.) just to get one ASAP. The Falcon is a nice car, but Ford could add two years and really mess it up by trying to "improve" it for the US market.

 

That car looks darn nice...

 

Ford should bring that car to the U.S. as soon as possible (with the necessary modifications of course).

The new 500, a nice vehicle in its own right, doesn't satisfy the need for a RWD sports sedan with decent performance. Why is Ford handing this market to Chrysler, GM and the imports?

 

I really doubt it.

First off, the Aussie Falcon's chassis has evolved from the orgininal 1960's Ford Falcon chassis. I am not saying the parts are interchangeable, just that is has evolved over time.

Apparently the S197 chassis which is in the 2005 will be used on the Aussie Falcon. If that is the case, that car can easily be produced for the US Market.

The CV/GM, while a good profit maker for Ford, are based on a chassis older than I am, they could use a replacement and perhaps making the cars more desireable to a younger (under 60) audience. Perhaps renaming the CV and making it look like the 427 concept would be good. The same goes for the GM, some more upscale styling and maybe calling it the Maurader across the board.

 

Galaxie is right, the Falcon chassis platform is unique from every other Ford large car platform in the world, Ford Australia wanted to supply the chassis of the Falcon and its long wheel base version Fairlane/LTD to be used as the rear wheel drive platform for cars in the US like the Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car etc but I think Ford US gave it the flick, I don't know about in the US but over here in Australia, large car buyers will never purchase a front wheel drive car and with our road conditions that can be harsh in out back roads, front wheel drive cars aren't very suited, the Falcon would be perfect for the North American market, the independent suspension is a variant of the Jaguar rear ends, engines of the 6 turbo and the 5.4 litre V8 are very refined and powerful, the cars with slight changes to what US customers would want could easily be done, also if the car could ever be marketed over there then the go ahead for a 2 door coupe design could be done, with Australia's population and volumes of cars sold a year it just isn't cost effective.
Do you guys think the falcon with slight alterations to what Americans/Canadians would like could be a genuine seller? could you see it easily replacing a model over there?, what about selling the wagon and Ute versions over there? do you think there is a market for a vehicle of that type in North America?, I'm not up with all the models Ford/Mercury/Lincoln sell but to me the Falcon makes sense to be sold there

 

Theres nothing wrong with the 500. It totally opens the door for another sedan. FWD/AWD mild and RWD wild. They need the 500 to hit customers on both ends of the spectrum.

 

For the American market, probably the Sedan would be the only version that would sell well. A large coupe would be in short demand, and a ute would have a very small appeal.

Ford should bring it over, it would fit nicely between the 500 and CV.
