The GTO was a big *** slow tank. Maybe they should have called it a Tempest but it hardly insulted the GTO name. and btw: the new GTO interior was beautiful and the power train and drivetrain were fantastic.

 

And despite all that, GTO still failed in the USA ...

It's not about speed. Its about the look brother. The GTO back in day was smooth and sexy looking. That piece of $hit Pontiac made a few years back looked horrible and that's why the GTO sales sucked. GM should of made a retro GTO with the power and performance. Instead they made bubble looking turd and slapped the letters GTO on the side. Rubbish. GM really missed the boat on redesigning the GTO.

Just like Ford did years ago when they remade the Ford Thunderbird. What an injustice that was to the Thunderbird when they produced that round, ugly turd that sold next to nothing.

 

Maybe the reason GM thought the GTO would be a success is because if the Impala SS. It was big and bland looking. Didn't they sell a truckload of them?

 

Not sure but I owned two of them. Lol. A 95 & 96. The absolute greatest car I've ever had to drive. Not fast but was fantastic to travel in. And I'm anxiously waiting to see what the Chevrolet SS will look like when it comes out. Chevy, Ford, I really don't give a rats ***. I'm buying the better vehicle. I didn't include Dodge because they build nice looking garbage.

 

I own an 09 Charger RT and the 2011 srt 392 Challenger (along with my badass boss)
As a dodge owner and former fan all I can say is they are heading down a direction that will only **** off enthusiasts. I bought the boss because you can't tune a 2011+ charger/challenger. They win on curb appeal and styling but absolutely fail in every way on supporting any form of racing/performance enthusiast.
Their tag line should be - Dodge, we're third and proud of it!

Love my charger. two doors would look better for sure, but the challenger is just as much a heavy pig so don't see that it matters performance wise. I've got four doors running 11.79 in the 1/4 and I still tote my familly around in it.

And as far as recycling names... how about the dart?


If I had to guess, the cuda will slight body changes from the challenger, mostly gills and grills.

 

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it ugly. Boring as all get out, yeah, but not ugly. Looked like a bigger Cavalier (or whatever small bubble car they were pushing at that time). But holy crap was that thing fun to drive, lol.

 

10000% Agree, Leave the Cuda alone... We bought our SRT8 Challenger because it was so friggen sexy, a bit heavy yes but so was Marilyn Monroe..

 

It's a nice enough looking car, but it doesn't say 'Cuda to me like the modern Challenger says Challenger. The back is too much like a Taurus too. I bought my Challenger R/T Classic mainly for its looks. I don't think I'll be buying this unless it outperforms and undercuts the price of the upcoming Mustang. (I doubt it will do either of these.)

As for the modern GTO, while it was somewhat "boring" design, I still think it's an attractive, sleeper car (sans the tacky spoiler and hood scoops) that performs well with a nice interior. Of course over-designed and over-the-top looks (ala Camaro) seem to be what many people want in this segment. I'm looking forward to the new "boring" Chevrolet SS, which should be quite the sleeper.

 

One can make a turd, fast. It's still a turd. The modern GTO is a fast, ugly a$$ car and that's why the sales numbers for it were horrible.

 

Well I wouldn't call it ugly. I give her about a 5 in looks and a 7 overall. But it's still a cool car and is making a very big comeback. People are really hunting for them right now. Just took a whole to get over the bland look of it. I can respect any cool car despite looks or power. Take the Caterham for instance. I will take this ugly little monster over a new mustang GT any day.

 

I can't remember when was the last time I saw 2004-2006 GTO on the streets.

I'm pretty sure I saw more classic GTOs than modern ones.

 

I see 04-06 GTOs all the time in the past year or so, heck my brother-in-law has one.

 

I could live with a version of that rendering of the Barracuda. Just change up the front end a little bit. Make it more evocative of the 2nd-gen to match the tail light treatment. But then again, I've always preferred the Barracuda over the Challenger.
It definitely has to be smaller and lighter than the current Challenger to better compete with the upcoming Mustang and Camaro.

 

Well if they make it 400 lbs lighter, add a 6.2l supercharged hemi and unlock the PCM I'd look at it.
