2014 Corvette
I like it... always did ounce it was introduced back in Jan. Saw it at Chicago auto show and at Barrett Jackson Palm Beach. Test drove a base black one recently seen below and it's quick, fast and badasss. Handles nicely too. Love the smooth Tremec shifter, rev matching, and the smaller diameter steering wheel... the base seats hugs you well. The interior is topnotch and the configurable gauges are to drool for, IMO. It doesn't have the rawness like my Boss 302 (although the fun factor is close) but it's a nice package & great bang for the buck.

Only an 11% loss between the rated flywheel HP and the Edmunds RWHP.
Queue the inevitable "it must be under rated its really making closer 475hp" as every rube on the interwebz seems to think a 15% drivetrain loss is writ in stone.

DO.NOT.WANT.
It's all good... the new C7 will bring out either a like/love or dislike/hate effect. Put it this way, I think GM made the right moves in having a game-changer in their hands. It looks quite exotic and high quality in person, both interior & exterior... pics don't do it justice IMO.
I dropped by the local Chebbie dealership today and looked at (4) 2014 corvettes that they had in stock. I was able to sit in one for a second after they confirmed I had nothing pointy in the back pocket. All were already sold and they tell me that I can reserve myself in a place in a moderately long line with a G deposit. I must admit to being interested. If you like the car at all in pictures, you will love it in person. It really kicks in red, although black seems to hide some of it's most interesting lines.
On the plus side, if I see the 2015 mustang and decide to go that way, my deposit is fully refunded.

Nope. Research always comes first and in all honesty it seems that by april or so there should be corvettes available at msrp or lower. And, I really want to see what the 2015 mustang will look like. The concept of a high hp Naturally Aspirated gt350 with awesome handling is a pretty attractive thing.
When you raise your looking price from 40k or so for a nice 5.0 to 60-70k for a vette, your options expand tremendouly. There are so many great cars out there 70k or less. It's a lot to consider and I will do so slowly. I'm certainly in no rush as I enjoy my little 2011 5.0 everyday.

Looks like its getting an 8 speed automatic soon. This is good news for Fords too. I would think this transmission is one of the children of the Ford-GM codevelopment. Perhaps this is destined for high HP/TQ Lincoln variants? Might also be a good way to get some more sales on the GT500 as well.

By almost all accounts, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 is a fantastic car, and a big improvement over the C6 Corvette. If there were any criticisms, one commonly-heard gripe is that the six-speed automatic transmission carried over, as the "standard" transmission became a seven-speed manual. Even without the benefit of a new slushbox, the C7 saw an increase in fuel economy of 1 mpg city and 3 mpg highway.
But if you wondered how much better the C7's fuel economy could be if it had a more modern transmission with more ratios, you may not have to wait much longer. In a technical paper summary previewed by the Society of Automotive Engineers, details on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette's eight-speed automatic transmission are previewed. How sure are we this transmission is for the 2015 Corvette? Because it says so right in the summary of the paper.
What other technical tidbits are revealed? A torque capacity of 1000 newton-meters (738 lb-ft) of torque, and an overall ratio spread of 7.0. With more ratios, the transmission, dubbed 8L90, promises quicker off-the-line acceleration with a shorter first gear ratio enabled by the extra two cogs, as well as better highway fuel economy thanks to the greater ratio spread. The 8L90 could put the C7 automatic over the 30 mpg highway mark, an incredible accomplishment for a 455-hp 6.2-liter V-8. The full paper will be available for purchase in April 2014.
