Exclamation 2011 Taurus Tri-coat White getting painted

My Dad ordered a 2011 Taurus Limited, it arrived at the dealership over the weekend. On Sunday (the dealership was closed) we took a look at Dad's car, there was a door ding directly above the RR wheel.

Monday we pointed it out to the GM, and he assured us it would be fixed by "paintless dent removal".

Wednesday we were informed they would have to paint it.

IMO, "after factory" painting is not as good as the factory, is this a good assumption?

Secondly, what can we do to protect ourselves as to the warranty of the paint? What questions should we ask and/or what documentation should we obtain?

FWIW, the GM assures my Dad does not have to take the car and another can be ordered if he is not satisfied. The car will be ready Friday.

Any info or opinions would be appreciated.

Find out what body shop they'll be taking it to. Talk to them. See if you can find anyone who has had work done by them. Most shops will have a portfolio of the work they've done.

Or just have them order another. Nothing beats piece of mind.

Thanks for the wisdom, that is all that matters.

Dad bought the car. The fix was perfect (to my eyes anyway), wrote up a warrenty for 3 additional years (over Ford's and noted the work done to the RR fender), and a set of splash guards.

Dad has his piece of mind.

The extra 3 years should be enough, most paint will look great at first but after 2 to 3 years you will see things like the clear coat pealing off, extra heavy oxidation, flaking and discoloring. That is typical of a "quickie" paint job. With a good paint job none of that will happen. My stripes were painted on by the dealer 4 years ago and look great with no problems. A friend has an 06 where his rear bumper was repainted by the dealer and has all the problems listed above. Time will tell.
