hehe... lots of memories there. Most of 'em not so great.
Similar to this story, I was watching a clip of Leno's Garage with the brand-new Dodge Viper. Jay has one of the first Vipers in his collection, from 1992. Back then, this "monster" car had 400 HP!! WOW!! Well, here in 2011, I bought a fairly "normal" new Mustang GT which has... 412 HP! (And probably double the mpg.) My how times change.

How is DeLorean a muscle car? It had a 2.8L V6 engine built by Volvo-Renault and it used to cost more than Corvette.
Or Chevy Citation? AMC Gremlin?
Yahoo Autos sometimes has the dumbest stories ...

Delorean definitely was not a muscle car, was designed to be a supercar, using the chassis from the lotus esprit but they messed up by using that renault V6.
Its really a shame the Delorean didn't last one more year when the twin turbo version was set to come out. The twin turbo Delorean supposedly ran 0-60 in 5.5sec which is extremely fast compared to other 1985 models.

My freind had an 81 Vette. I let him drive my 83 GT. He was so disappointed with the Vette's performance that he traded it on a hot rod Jeep. I don't think they made anything decent from 73-81. I remember reading about the new 82 GT in magazines and how pumped they were about the 157hp 5.0 and that it had a stick as standard when you couldn't get a manual in the Vette.
Look the musclecar times of the sixties. A new Edge can outrun some of the cars we revere. Our new stangs are faster than a small block Cobra. Life is good.

89 Anniversery model was even beautiful-ER! Came with the Grand National 1 gallon hair-dried bent six and was pretty **** fast especially when you turned up the wick, I remember being very impressed with a 12 second capable car right up until it blew a head gasket (this was in the early 90's when 13 seconds was considered **** respectible for a modded car).

I wouldn't would definitely not call the DeLorean a muscle car. I also would not call it a super car. It was designed to be a sports car. As far as the V6 goes, it wasn't what DeLorean wanted. He wanted 200 HP, settled on 150, and then catalytic converters choked 20 more HP leaving it with ~130. (Also, at one point the Cologne V6 was considered.) There were two or three Legend Twin-Turbo cars made in 1983, but I believe they were test mules.
While similar, it did not use the same chassis from the Lotus. The DeLorean had a double "Y" frame.

Near Naples here in FL is the DeLorean "Skunkworks" at DMC Florida, and they are the DeLorean high-performance garage, and they are engineering new options for horsepower. They told me they do stress tests on everything as well, even the transmissions after creating power adders, and they have engine upgrade kits, single, twin-turbo and I think he mentioned they were working on a supercharger.
