John, I'm a Michelin/BFG fan myself so I'm sure the X-Ice are amazing. These two tires are probably the top two. But just looking at the tread in person, the Blizzaks look like they'd have more bite in deeper snow.

A set of Goodyear Wranglers on the SpoTrac 4x4 works for me.

Today was hibernation Day for the Mustang.

Its Battery is still attached and hooked up to a Crappy Tire
Solar Power Panel. Hope this works!

Drove mine all last winter on PZeros, without any problems. TCS is great, giving you just enough spin to 90 degree your corners without going too far over. Only exception was up steep grades from dead stop. For this year I'm buying a beater as I have 30K on my stang already, and want to cut back on my kilometers. Also, so many bad drivers out on the QEW last winter, I'd rather they write off a beater.

Weather is not too cold here on the west (wet) coast, just lots of rain and some more rain. :notnice:
We seem to get one snowstorm a year in these parts and most people dont drive when it snows, too many hills!

So yes I will be driving my car this winter.

My last car I ran Michelin Pilot Alipins and loved them - great winter tires, but I also had an AWD car - they are more performance tires. I think for the Mustang, a more heavy duty winter tire would be best. My Pilot Alpins had tons of tread left after 5 winters-worth of use....winter tires might be expensive, but they LAST and are worth the headaches they help to avoid!

Great news! I bought an old Jeep YJ for the winter and put the Mustang in storage yesterday. Yes, I did have it Krowned when I thought I'd be slogging through the salt in it but at least the car will never rust now! Of course, I need to Krown the Jeep now... cha-ching!

Do you really think that the rust proofing is necessary. I drove my last car a few winters and didnt have any rust problems. The only reason I took it off the road was because I had another car. Now that, that is gone as well and I am really enjoying the Mustang I was wondering if I should bother gettign it done. I really dont like the stuff on my cars, in particular when I am cleaning things like the engine bay.

Just got some Toyo Observe G02 Plus. I'm actually surprised of the handling, not as mushy as other winter tires I had in the past. Mine were $184 installed each for some 225/60/17. 215 would have been better but they don't fit on 8" wide mags. The 225s gives about 1.5 km/h off the speedo at 100 km/h ... not bad.

X-ice aren't bad but like all the other european tires they have less thread and wear faster. In Quebec, we get snow so more thread the better !

I think it more prevents rust down the road in 5 or 10 years.

Mine's stored now for the winter under a great Ford custom car cover. Winter car is my 01 Focus ZTW wagon with four Michelin snows. Can't wait for spring!

Focus has been Krown'ed every year and I think Krown is the best way to go for the long term.

Just got the winter tires put on today on the stock rims *sniff sniff* no more burnouts. Picked up some 17x9 Cobra rims though for the new summer tires.

My winter beater konked out yesterday. There was a hole in one of the the vacuum lines, and it wasn't running worth a poo. I had do drive to the parts store to pick up a new piece of hose. (65 bucks for a piece of hose less than a foot long!)

Anyway, I had to drive my mustang to the parts store. I must say, the 05 is light years beyond light years better in the snow, compared to how my 02 was. It still has the stock tires on it.

I drove mine yesterday too! Just out of the garage and to the end of the driveway and back but it felt great. Compared to my old Jeep YJ, it's just soooo nice! Can't wait until spring...

Nokian's are probably the best. It is best to have four winter tires. Although we have not really had a normal winter in Edmonton. Yes, I drive my 05 in winter conditions, although next year I hope to have an older model truck to use in the snow. Snow does not worry as much as other drivers that figure they know how to drive in snow.
