With the exchange rate between Canada and the US now in Canada's favor
, I thought I would do a little comparison of mustang prices in the the two countries. I wasn't all that surprised to find out Canadians are paying more for the exact same car, the surprise was the huge margin between the two prices.
I was also quite surprised to see that the cost of options in most cases seemed to be completely unrelated. Some options are cheaper in Canada, some cheaper in the US.
I used the build and price function on ford.com and ford.ca and built two GTs with identical options. Although I realize that in some cases options are packaged together so you can't easily compare.
What I really want to know is what happens the the $11,000+ (more like $8,800 today) more that we pay in Canada and what is the reason for it?

I believe if you do this and bring it up, you still have to pay duty/gst, as well as get the DRLs and what not put on, possibly even the cluster.

you have to pay a couple hundred bucks for fees and inspections and then just GST and any PST you might have.
I brought my car up over a year ago when 1USD=$0.90 Cdn and it still worked out a lot cheaper. My car didnt really need any mods to be legalized here though.
Were getting shafted, as we have been for a long time, thats why nobody is buying cars from dealers now and theyre pretty much all dropping 10-20% off of new car prices.

There's no duty to pay on a car built in the US and Canada. (On imports you have to pay a 6.1% duty) You just have to pay the tax plus some small admin fees. Under the Transport Canada, List of Vehicles Admissible from the US, all 1992 on Mustangs are admissible. For those bulit after Sept 1, 2007, they have to be equipped with the Ford Securilock Anti-Theft Immobilizer.

Lets put it this way, for the money I paid for my '05 GT, I could throw in a few grand more and pick up a shelby in the US. If the climate was the same in '05 that's what I would have done.
On the flipside, we are going to save a ton on bolt-ons!
