This is kinda off subject, but I'm stuck in Atlanta for 2 weeks (business trip) and I don't know my way around. From the small amount of exploring I've done I figured out quickly that it's real easy to end up in the wrong area of town. Anyway I know there's lots of stuff to do but I don't want to get lost again and quite honestly it's boring doing things by yourself... so if anyone on here is from the Atlanta area and wants to hang out let me know cause otherwise I'm sitting in the hotel room bored as heck. I'm up for anything just get me out of this hotel room!

Every Monday they have Metalsome Monday's at Dark Horse Tavern. It's actually in the basement club called 10 High. i strongly suggest checking that out. It's worth every minute!!

On the 18th besure to check out local legend Butch Walker at Variety Playhouse. Get your tickets in advance as his hometown (and most out of town) shows sell out.

Nothing to suggest besides that. Enjoy da ATL! It's a wonderful city! If you get a chance check out the Coke museum. Or even the CNN building! They have tours at both places!

Thanks, I will definitely check that stuff out! I was planning on going to the coke museum already but maybe I'll try to see the cnn bldg too. I also saw something about a christmas light show at Stone Mountain. Is that worth going to or is it more of a family thing? (I'm 25)

Definitely gonna have to check out the night life, just need to cruise around a little during the day and get my bearings so I dont wind up getting robbed! I went to wash the car the other night and 3 guys start walking out of the woods towards me so I had to jump in the car and run seeing as how I'm about 135 lbs, alone, in a Trans-Am.... On a side note, the traffic is insane here! I've been lots of places but this is about the worst. Well then again there's still New Jersey.

haha Yeah the traffic is the pits!

I forgot to mention that Metalsome Monday's is live band karaoke! They have a list of 130 songs to choose from and you get the chance to sing with a live band! The people there are great and its the best time to be had in Atlanta! No singing talent? Don't worry! It's all about fun there! i sang Mr Brownstone there one night and fell down on top of the drums. I staggered around a bit and then we kept on going!

Car theft is a pretty big problem in Atlanta. My ex's car got broken into and they stole my sons ( a 5 year old!) bookbag and nothing else!! Then my friend got hit by a stolen vehicle not long ago. My bosses truck got stolen once too. So yeah its a crazy place at times. I wish i could tell you where its safe to park but I don't know where those places are.

I would show you around but I live in Jacksonville, FL and only visit ATL every once in a while to see my kids.

If you get a chance check out the Buckhead area for more bars. Its a pretty entertaining part of town I hear. Only gotten the chance to go once.

Haha that's just what I wanna hear. This is the first trip I've taken the T/A on in a long time (about 1k over the last 2 years). It's gonna stink if anything happens to it. I've already been freaking out b/c of the rain. This is the first rain she's seen in about 3 years. :notnice: And on top of that I found out my new top leaks into my new interior (which had to be replaced due to mold from a previous water leak)... So I'm pimpin around my hot ride with HVAC foil tape on the windows, not cool.

well unfortunately the new stang would be replaceable, this t/a is not. Luckily my hotel is in Norcross which seems to be half-way decent. I have friday free so hopefully I'll be able to find some of these bars you have told me about. I have an expense account so if i scope it out and find the parking to be shady I'll just rent me a car for the weekend to beat around in haha.

Hey Jason- Welcome to ATL. Lotsa stuff to do here! Pick up a "Creative Loafing" newspaper and you'll find just about anything that you're into to do on any given night. I'm 33 and married w/ children so I can't party with you ...wish I could. However, my work schedule is extremely flexible and I would be willing to do a lunch or something next week and cars and such. I have a Silver satin 05GT and would be happy to let you check it out PM me and let me know if you are interested. Otherwise, I'm sure you'll find plenty to do around here without getting mugged or carjacked

p.s. if you need a late night booty-go to the higher end Hotel bars in the Lenox area where you will find the no-strings chicks looking for a little fun

Hello and welcome to Hotlanta!!!! (Keep your eye on your stuff and you might want to stay above I20 ...
Things to do: (First of all my husband and I are both 24 with no kids, so we've had a chance to explore Atlanta from a younger viewpoint)

For a nice place to walk around, try downtown Decatur and the Virginia Highlands (both are near Emory University) - lots of good restaurants with a wide variety of cuisines!

Decatur - try Noodle, Burrito Art, and The Angel (fantastic English pub) Pretty much everything here is reasonably priced!
Virginia Highlands - pretty much anywhere is good This area is a little more upscale -

Hmm for things to do: Lots of malls - Lennox is good (in Buckhead) ... Perimeter Square is good (off of I285 on Ashford Dunwoody right off the exit) .. bigger mall, less snoody with restaurants attached outside ...

What part of Atlanta are you staying in btw?

Downtown Atlanta is not very good for walking around, if you have experienced ... and not really much to do there either ... there is the High Museum which is pretty nice - they have a good exhibit going on right now which you can read about at www.high.org

Stone Mountain park is ok - I went to a laser show there once and it was a bit icky - but it really wasn't my cup of tea - beautiful park though

If you are looking for a day trip, Athens is an hour away - but maybe I am a bit biased lots of little shops and restaurants and generally rocks! It's easy to get to going either I85 north to 316 and follow it straight to Athens ... or you can go 78 eastbound straight ...

Marietta is not a bad area in general - kinda boring in terms of a great night life - it's a suburb of Atlanta .. businesses and houses etc .. there can be some bad pockets but nothing out of the ordinary ...

www.accessatlanta.com is a great place to find food and things to do ...

I hope you can entertain yourself - it shouldn't be too hard - just be careful driving - it can be a bit overwhelming when you first get here - everyone drives fast and a bit crazy and rush hour is most of the day, depending on where you are

Have fun!

UGABrook,

Thanks for all the suggestions I will have to go check some of that stuff out. I'm glad we finally got some decent weather around here today. Pretty much just spend the day exploring around the city. Today I went to the Coca-Cola Museum, the high museum, and the stone mountain car museum (which has some really interesting vehicles and memorabia). I also stayed for the laser show, and well I'm glad that's not all I went there for. It was ok but not as cool as I remembered it being from when I went there at 7 yrs old.

Anyway I am actually staying in Duluth off exit 104. It seems to be a decent area here, lots of good shopping right up the street from my hotel. I am gonna try and hit the buckhead bars/clubs sometime this week, and also try to get to the Lennox mall and tanger outlets and do some xmas shopping. BTW is Virginia highlands another suburb or is that the name of an area. Everything is so grown together around here its hard to tell what's a county or a town or just some general name for an area.
