Your Mustang Story: How did you Unite with your Mustang?

When the S197 was first announced my girlfriend (now my wife) simply asked me what color mine was going to be. I sold my 25th anniversary 1990 LX 5.0 to a buddy, traded my 2001 Mustang (on a 04 F150 Lariat) and waited to place my order. I thought I'd wait until around Christmas and it would be delivered right about the time the weather was clearing up in upstate NY. Bad idea. My local dealer put in 2 orders for me, one for an automatic and one for a 5-speed. But couldn't get a build date for either one of them. In May of 06 I found a Legend Lime GT Premium at a dealership in Richmond VA. They had originally ordered both an auto and a 5-speed for a guy to see which one would get picked up. Low and behold they both got built. I bought it over the phone, rented a car and drove about 10 hours one-way to get it. I promptly named her LegendLimeDream.
In August of 2007 we had a house fire that started in the garage in the middle of the night. My girl was melted almost beyond recognition. I can't describe the feeling and standing in a neighbors yard watching our house burn to the ground and having my 11 year old step-daughter say "Your car, your car's gone!". We all got out safely but we lost everything. And she was concerned about the one thing that meant almost as much to me as she did.
Labor day weekend I was searching around on the internet and found an almost identical car. A Legend Lime 05 Mustang GT Premium. The only difference was that is had the Shaker 1000 stereo. It only had 7,000 miles and they were asking 5k less than the insurance company paid me for mine. This one was outside of Philly which is only a 4 hour drive. I bought it that day over the phone and again, rented a car and drove down to get her. Her name is LegendLimeDreamII.
I think my step-daughters were just as excited to see my car back in the garage as I was. They said that I had my car back and that showed that everything would ok. They were right, everything did turn out to be ok.
I have since added all of the mods that I had done to the original, and then some. Dreams are funny things. Sometimes they actually have a way of coming true. I love my girl!

I fell in love with the Mustang back in 64 after seeing them on the roads around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and on TV! I was only 7 but knew I was going to have one someday. Mustang toys as a child then when I was 19 I found a 76 Cobra II used with only 4000 miles on it. Black and Gold like the "Bandit" and a 302. Next was a 79 Pacecar Mustang then an 85 then 86 then 89 all GTs. Once I saw the 2004 prototype I was all set to get back in a Mustang again. I went to the Dealer in June 04 and ordered my Redfire GT and it was the 3rd one delivered by that dealer on Nov. 6 2004.
54000 miles later and I am still excited to fire it up everyday!

Some great stories... and here's mine.
I have been a muscle car guy since my mid-teen's and I had exposure to both the Blue Oval as well as Bow-ties as my mom drove a white on white '68 Mustang for her daily driver throughout my high school days (same car I used for my driver's license road test). But with my dad's influence, I went the bow-tie route and had a '70 2-door Nova that kept me busy until college.
After graduating from college, got hit again with the muscle car bug and proceeded to buy a rolling chasis '68 Nova SS. I spent the next 16 years doing everything to that car and finally got tired of the never ending tinkering. So I sold it and with the convincing of my second wife, bought a waverunner and a Harley. I was really starting to enjoy the whole Harley thing until I was involved in a very bad accident while participating in the Sturgis Rally out West. Well the bike was totalled, I was very shook up and opted to never ride again (was lucky to be walking and talking).
So, I got a little money from a settlement fom that totally avoidable bike accident and decided to start shopping for the next best thing... a ragtop. I honestly was not really interested in the Mustang at first (was looking at used Corvette's), but the more I looked around I just kept coming back the S197. After a ton of online research, I decided to actually test drive one and that sealed the deal. Both my Nova's were stick, but I went in with an open mind and opted to test drive both. I was also unsure of the color, but knew I wanted something different and subtle.
So off to the dealership I went and as soon as I saw the Alloy, I was convinced that was my color. It also happened to have every option I wanted (5-speed, 3:55 posi, cloth top, premium interior, sirius, leather, etc.). I still wanted to compare the auto to manual, but opted to drive my Alloy first. Well, the grin never left my face during the entire test drive as I was in heaven!!! I reluctantly took out a Torch Red auto and did not make it 2 blocks before heading back to the dealer.
Test drive was Sat., went back out with friend on Sunday just to confirm that was the right choice and started the negotiations first thing Monday. After an otherwise painful day of back and forth trying to get every possible $$ reduced, we finally closed the deal and I picked her up on Tues.
Fast forward 18 months... I got the itch (along with finally having the time and $$) to make a few changes. Then I find this site and about a month later UPS is visiting me regularly and I am patiently awaiting the delivery of my Edelbrock SC!!

My story: Back when the prototype came out, my wife and I saw several pics of it from the show circuit. She is NOT a car person, but she definitely got the bug. She told me we could get one when the production version came out. I had to sell my '89 GT with only 74,000 miles on her, but I loved the new Stang so much, that was no problem!
Well, in November of 2004, she relents and lets me order a black GT with IUP, etc... We waited for several months to get a build date, but come May of 2005, she got tired of waiting and she axed the order. She bought herself a new Camry!
For the next two years I made sure all I talked about when we saw a new Stang driving by is how gorgeous the car looked. She did get tired of me saying things!
Well, August of 2007 comes rolling around, and we're on our way down to see my Mom, who lives a couple of hours away. We come up on Louisburg Ford (Kansas) and the wife suggests we pull into the lot, to have A "LOOK". I can't believe what I am hearing and try not to get too excited. We walk around the lot, check out a black 5-speed GT, then go inside the showroom. There, sitting all shiny and sharp is a brand new '07 Tungsten GT with Premium, IUP, etc. They offer to let us take it for a drive. It was at that point I knew there was a real chance!
Long story short, that afternoon, she wheels and deals with them and she buys it outright!!!
My wife - I think I'll keep her!

For my 18th birthday and also a graduation present, My mother decided to buy me a car. I really didnt care what car im getting as long as it runs.
We went to a dealership one saturday morning, the first stop was a Mazda dealership. We looked around and saw a Mazda 3 hatchback, I thought it was a cool car to drive, just because everybody at my school liked import's. We were at the point of purchasing it, but the sales guy kept pressuring us to buy it that day. We werent happy because he kept on pushing on us to buy it.
So we went to a ford dealership, and outside stood this Redfire GT. As soon as i saw the car I fell inlove with it. We went inside the dealership, opened a brochure, and there! Boom! right in the middle page was a Convertible Legend lime with a blond girl driving it. That was it for me! I told my mom that this was the car I wanted, and she liked the color of the legend lime. So we both decided to get the car, but not at that dealership. We went to another dealership and ordered the car from factory.
On the day that i picked up my car, I saw it on the freeway, with the truck hauling it onto the dealership.
It took me 3 long months to drive it! During that time, i found out about the history of the Mustang and the legacy about it. I also found out about this great website.
My first accessory i bought for the car was the Running pony keychain that was sold here on bradbarnett. As soon as i saw that commercial with steve mcqueen, I just said to myself "I've got to have that!"
I'm filipino, and i'm really proud to own a 2005 mustang. It set's me apart from all the stereotypes out there.
Here's my baby at the moment.
My next project will be a 1969 Chevy Nova. I just love muscle cars.
