What does this mean? (Found it on Ford's site, FAQ for X-Plan)

Q: Can I trade-in a vehicle in combination with this program?
A: Yes, however trade-in allowances are not covered by this program.

trade-in allowances? huh?

I think it means that the dealer isn't required to give you anything special. They are making very little on the x-plan price so the trade is usually below wholesale or just wholesale price. You are on your own basically.

I was told by my dealer that when they usually give KBB trade in prices on cars, between the GOOD and FAIR prices from the website.

Does this sound right?

unless your car has major issues, it should be rated in good condition on KBB for an estimate. Go by carmax and see what they say though.

Basically X-plan is a set rate, most dealers will try and ream you on your trade in value to make a few extra bucks.

Definitley keep an eye out on trade in and what the best value is on your end.

Yeah....I will. Especially since I am slightly upside down (long story about an old 10% car loan). I need every penny on my old stang.

I recently purchased my 2005 Mustang GT on Z-plan pricing and traded in my 1997 Dodge Stratus. They gave me KBB's value for a good condition trade in.

I had tried to sell the car myself and got zero interest.

Needless to say, I was happily surprised in what I got.

I think it really depends on the car to. If you've got a car that is of interest to somebody else you might be able to get more if you sell it on your own.

Good luck.

Yeah, I showed my dealer the KBB value ($2,000) and he said he could only offer me $800. I figured since I had X-plan, he would not offer anything serious.

Go to Forddirect.com

Search inventory, then look under any vehicle where it says "x-plan pricing". Click on that link. Then on "More Info on X-plan pricing"

I ordered my Lime GT on XPlan. I was gonna trade in my 02 stang, they offered me $9K. That was only FAIR KBB value. The car is in perfect condition! So I advertised my car for sale instead. I got $10K for it! And I am convinced that they would have low balled me even further come trade-in time, as they would have known they had me over the barrel. I just know they would have. Although now I have NO car to drive... (expecting mid January - locked in production 5 Jan).

So my advice to anyone, TRY to sell your car yourself instead of trade-in. Especially if you go XPlan.

I bought mine under X plan yesterday. The trade in value was so low, I chose to keep my trade and sell it myself.

My dealer offered $9200 for my cherry svt focus; i sold it in one day for $3400 more. (i thought selling it would take weeks!). of course, the bad part of selling it so fast -- and having my gt delayed -- is that we had to buy another car. now i drive a rental-white 2000 taurus with 80,000 miles (very slowly. it's almost a zen thing) and tell myself i'll appreciate the gt that much more ...

xplan put us about $2000 ahead, selling the focus outright another $3000 or so once taxes are considered, and i'm pretty sure we can get at least a few hundred more for the taurus than we paid (bought it off ebay and will sell it, not trade).

that's a lot of money to leave on the table by trading in or not finding a dealer who'll accept xplan or similar, especially if you're in the drawn-out process of ordering. time really is money in this case, and it's making my very self indulgent purchase look almost practical.
