I'm new to the forum and had a question for you guys. If you are able to use the X-plan are you still able to take advantage of any rebates or cash back offers that exist?

Thanks very much, great site, can't wait to get my 05 Mustang.

I have a question for Kevin or Dan. Is it possible to negotiate on a lower price if you get A-plan already? Is there still room to negotiate there?

A-plan is basically dealer cost. In effect, you are paying what you would if you bought the car directly from Ford. I believe the dealer does get reimbursed a little bit for their trouble. But good luck negotiating into that money, as its not gonna be much. I've tried this for all 3 cars I've bought on A-plan, and they will never budge below that price (not that I expected them to).

Can I flat out ask my salesman for this? Say, Can you offer me the A or X plan for this car?

No, an A-plan is for Ford Motor Company employee's or their relatives only. Ford Dealer employee's do not get them. A Ford Motor Company employee can give anyone an X-plan. You really can't negotiate either price but you can negotiate your trade in price. I've had my trade value vary by as much as $3000.

Thanks, I have never tried negotiating the price. I've always used A or Z plan to buy my fords. Fortunatly, I have a few family members working there. Not sure what the discount will be on a mustang, but I have always got $5000-$6000 savings on my Ford F-150's.

Any idea how much the dealer makes on A or Z Plan sales?

Jason

It is reimbursed to 2% over invoice by Ford as long as the pin is legit.

A is current ford employee, Z is retired, D is dealer employee. They are all listed simply as A plan on an invoice now. Certain plans get specific incentives, typically retirees get a rebate of 500-1000 on most vehicles. D plan employees do not get x-plans to give away, but dealers do have a few every year to give away. Usually it is done for local commercial customers that do not buy enough vehicles to become recognized by Ford nationally but help the dealer, or friends of the dealer like ex-employees, cousins, etc.
