I fell in love with the looks of the S197 when it was introduced in 05. We bought an 07GT in June of 06.

It's goofy but I think that I enjoy waxing/detailing/tinkering with the car as much as I enjoy driving it.

Plus the folks that I have met on the forums, at car shows and the Woodward Dream Cruise have made the Mustang one of our best car purchases ever.

We used to buy a new car often. Starting in the early 80's we began to save for a car, pay cash and keep them for 15-20 years. It's nice not to have a car payment. Plus we found that the longer we owned a car the more we became attached to it. That's how I feel about our 07. I still love the looks and still love to mess around with it. The newer Mustangs are very nice and I am sure are improved in lots of ways. But we have no plans of letting go of our 07.

+1 to the above sentiments. When a friend sent me pics of the concept car unveiled at the Detroit auto show, I said if that if/when it goes into production, I'm all over it. Almost pulled the trigger on an 05 Redfire GT, but decided to wait and ordered an 06 Tungsten with fanblades. Waited nine weeks for the car, and took delivery in early November 2005. Just turned over 18,000 miles, and I enjoy it more with each passing day. I, too, almost enjoy modding it more than driving it. And I, too, have an 84 Ranger longbed that has been in the family for a long time (took delivery in October 1984). So I totally agree with the buy, hold, and love strategy!

thats gotta be one of the lowest mileage 05s in existence, do know of a black one local thats real low too, never rained on etc...but think he's got like 5k on his- he used some fancy wax- zaino i think- and his car has the most beautiful factory paint ive ever seen. he never washes it, just dusts/polishes...

know what you mean about 'special to me' my 06 was ordered with only the leather wheel/shifter option- other than that, barebones, who would fall in love with a base model mustang... me and wouldnt trade it for the world...
got a 4 year old, 4 mile/flatbedded home/undriven 09 stashed away here too, identical to the 06 in case anything ever happens to it- always said if I could go back in time, i'd stash away a 69 fastback, that wasnt gonna happen- next favorite was the 05-09, so went for it...

2/29/2004, went to the cleveland auto show, just for something to do- plus wanted to gawk at the GT40 car the magazines were showing...caught a glimpse of the new mustang and love at first sight... wife and kids got mad as i spent over a hour there in the ford booth- colors?/built in USA?/Engine in USA?/tranny- mexico??!!... anyway, it was mostly all good, but 3 kids and 4 seats meant a uphill struggle to say the least...after much 'discussion' (like a full YEAR) with the wife, she got tired of hearing about it- I agreed to get rid of 2 cars, order a mustang- 05 order banks had just closed, 06 was starting soon, got 06 ordered the day the order banks opened up...
heres a pic of that love at first sight day...

My DD is a 2006 Screaming Yellow GT 'Vert I ordered new from the factory - 8 years ago. 106,000 almost trouble free miles.

I also still have a 1985 Mustang GT hatchback I bought new. I recently did a restoration on it and it looks better than new.

Hey, you copied me

6 1/2 years and 35k miles

Never get tired of it. Usually my cars are gone in 2, 3 years max. This one still is as exciting, if not more, than day one.

Wow guys, time really does fly!! Ford4v429 I still remember when your first car was smashed on the car hauler as you watched... wow has it really been that long?

My Pony now has 114,000 miles, been crashed 3 times, no significant issues in its journey since I picked her up on August 13, 2005! My Pony is now 7 years, 5 months, and 22 days old! I still smile at dropping the top, the rumble of Flowmasters as I turn the key, and the car is still as fun today as when I brought her home years ago.

I test drove a new one with the thought of trading to a 2013, but the new Pony didn't seem to have THAT much more to make it worth the high monthly payment. I have decided that I am happy with things just the way they are!

7 years and counting

I bought this car off the lot on my birthday Dec. 30, 2005.
90,000 miles and still going strong, the only time it failed me was the alternator a couple years back in Boulder Colorado. I`ve driven this car to Missouri and back 7 times.
The curves on I-90 east of the Idaho-Montana state line have made a believer out of a few people in the way this car handles.
I don`t have any plans for replacing this car any time soon.
Keeping the Faith

then & now

yep- time does fly...heres a pic of 'the one that got away', in hindsight I was extremely lucky that car got damaged- I had obsessed so pathetically over it, had I gotten it, it woulda owned me... giving up on it/realizing 'its just a car' was a tough lesson, but i needed it. its replacement has not been pampered at all- wellmaintained, yes, but...

only dinged mine up once in 50k miles - tcs button shouldnt be messed with if its going to rain... but its had the crap flogged out of it on test and tune days as much as possible, sits out most of the year, even buried in snow...have managed to this day to keep it out of the salt, still like 7 yrs ago to look underneath. hope to never ever get salt on it- but if it comes down to that or walking, well, I'd probably drive it. once in the salt is the end in my opinion, it gets into places that cant be flushed...

I like the 2013 tails, like the 10-13 interior, the extra hp would be nice, but still...my 06 is as fun as the day I first got it, if I'm 'stuck' driving a 'retro'/'old'/ 'late model' whatever S197 for the rest of my days, I'll still be a happy camper- these were truly great cars, a absolute ball to drive, greatest looking body since 1969, and relatively affordable... the new ones basing at 30k for a stripped V8 is just past my mental 'justifiable' maximum...nice cars, but not quite enough for me to justify either.

my next new mustang is already sitting in the garage, I just extended the payments for my 06 by 4 extra years, drive the same car, same payment, so the new one parked in the garage untouched went pretty much unnoticed , didnt 'miss' it, as it was identical to what I was driving...now the 09s almost paid for, still has only 4 miles on it/plastic on the seats, etc...but still I'm hoping my 06 will outlast me- and that that will be a long time from now

heres that pic of old 1ZVFT82H665134068 that didnt make the trip too well...the kids were upset too. bet whoever bought it still dont know the quarter/wing/trunk were smashed before it ever got driven...someone ran the carfax for me, eventually it was sold in west virginia, no damage/repair disclosure...

got mine in the spring of 2006 and ive never regretted it at ALL! it is the most reliable car ive ever owned (aside from my old beater, a 2000 grand marquis which when i junked it, it still started and drove at 207k miles on the original engine/tranny) and also the nicest car ive ever owned! at 71k miles i still get an evil grin on my face when the car is GLEAMING clean and i get a thumbs up from someone on the street. everyone said id stop babying it after a year or so but to tell you the truth, it never happened. ive never put it through an automatic car wash, ive never had anyone work on it besides myself, always has multiple coats of wax on it and im always the one to buff the paint in the spring (def needs it this spring) to keep it looking showroom new. ive actually had people say to me "oh thats the new 2013 right?" and i laugh and say "nah, thanks for the compliment but its an 06". their jaws always drop and say it looks brand new. my goal is to keep this car forever and to one day teach my future kid(s)...just got engaged actually...how to drive in it. cant believe 7 years have gone by but like they say, time flies when your havin fun!

I'll do you one better... I took this picture at the Anaheim International Auto Show back in November of 2003. It was love at first sight... I could not WAIT to actually have a 'Stang like this one in my garage!

The (now ex) Mrs. completely vetoed that idea since I had just purchased my 2002 'Stang a year earlier. LOL... Well... I have my 2005 Pony and not the Mrs., so things did actually work out for the best!

Is 7 years this month for me, 90k miles. Just bought some new wheels and tires to celebrate, and is still one of favorite cars I've owned.
