would you use a Used AirBag in your car?

Is there anything bad about using an Airbag that was pull out of a salvage car?

I'm working on an 05 mustang, it was in an accident and the airbag deployed.

I want to get an airbag from the dealer for $683.00 but I can get an airbag from the salvage yard for $400.00.

So, is there anything bad (present and longterm) about using an airbag that use in a car before but it didn't deploy when the car was total?

As long as it is still in tact as it came from the factory it should be fine.

For me safety equipment is always priority #1 to the point of being overly **** about it. Is there a way to have the airbag serviced/inspected? Just me maybe but I want to know for sure nothing is wrong with it, could be a great deal, then again....

I'd be very cautious. If the donor car got hit and the front hard enough to total it and the bag didn't deploy - then I'd be even more cautious. My life's worth the extra $300.00.

Maybe it got hit from the rear, then the airbags would not deploy.

I know in MO they are not allowed to sell airbags, there are laws to protect us as well as the junk yards.

Sure, I'd install an airbag that was out of another vehicle. If it wasn't deployed, it should be fine. The one's in my car now haven't been deployed either, so they should be fine. Sure there is a chance the incident that caused the salvage vehicle to be salvaged to have damaged the airbag, but more than likely not. I ride motorcycles and vehicles for 3 decades without an airbag, didn't even have an airbag in a vehicle until I was 28, so I think riding in a car with an airbag moved from another vehicle would be fine. Besides, the seatbelt saves lives, not the airbag. Without a seatbelt, the airbag will do more harm than good as it ads to the impact. Just my opinion, which means little. And sure, if I had to get a new airbag, my full coverage insurance would cover it and I'd get a new one anyway.

It also cuts down on thieves breaking into cars with no market to sell them to.

I wouldn't get a salvaged airbag.

Safety is one area you shouldn't go cheap.

Using a non-deployed salvage airbag will be fine. If there is any issue with the bag, the computer will pick it up and send a fault, which will light the airbag warning light. I've seen this happen. If the light stays off, the bag is functioning. Make sure you can get you $$$ back if the bag is bad and save yourself some $$$.

I have used a used bag (non deployed) no problems at all. The SRS is constantly monitoring itself and will let you know if there is a problem.
