In past years I've used many car covers through winter and summers, started with Evolution 3 fabric cover on my '67 Chevelle back in the early '80s and I still use a couple on cars that are under carports (Mustang and my MGM). Until mid 2010 I usually had at least one and sometimes up to three under covers as I had just one carport. 2010 I added a second.
Put them on dry, tie down if subject to wind, and if t snows or freezes rain on it, it'll be best to leave it alone until nearly melted or even better,, until melted and dry again. A good cover will breath air and not pass larger water molecules and when all is done, the car never got wet.
