Talking Winter Storage (Outside)

Hello guys, I'm new.

So I recently bought my very first muscle car (had to be a stang). I love it and it's name is minion. But sadly winter is coming. As I live in Canada and we get a fair share of snowfall I'm wondering if anyone has some good tips to keep her beautiful. Now this is a 2007 gt convertible with a lot of cosmetic upgrades; body is practically mint and it has low km (37,500km - 23,300 miles). I am switching to my winter car this weekend. Anybody have any suggestions over and above below?

Machine cleaning car cover, bucket wash the car, getting fuel stabilizer (I think stabil?), buying a trickle charger and electrical tape, finally one of those telescopic snow removal tools to get the weight off the roof.

Next winter I'll have a garage but this one sadly she stays outside. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I too live in Canada and go through this every fall. I feel your pain. I usually just disconnect the battery and keep it somewhere warm, carefully remove the snow when needed. park it on some plywood or something so that it doesn't sink too much for when you're getting it out in spring. I put a car cover on one year and it was a big mistake moisture got underneath somehow on a warmer day and froze again so the cover was basically frozen to the car. My car has sat every winter since 08 and still looks fine I don't think the snow does much to it its more the road salt you have to worry about in winter.

I'd agree with this.

Damage comes from salt, and potentially trying to scrape ice off the car. If you're not driving it, it's just water at the end of the day.

Hmm thank you I'll reconsider the car cover and find some wooden supports. If anyone else has any suggestions please share. This could be a useful tread for new people.

I know this isn't what you want to hear but your car will definitely suffer when left outside all winter. You can't even do it properly way down here in North Carolina. I'm sure you have some serious money invested in your car and I personally would spend even more (to protect it) by finding a proper storage facility. I don't know what your prices are like in Canada but I was able to find a unit that costs under $100 per month until I added on a garage. 6 months ($600) is well worth protecting your car each winter. If that just isn't financially possible, or the rates are much higher, then you will just have to bear through that cold winter. In either situation, STA-BIL is what I use in my collector car. It works very well. Good luck!

I also live in Canada (southern Ontario), and have a 06 GT conv which I bought new. I have driven it every winter with no issues. Just get yourself a set of good snow tires.

I made sure it was sprayed with rust proofing, and have it touched up every second year. No rust and the body is still keeping strong. Another option if you plan on using this as a DD.

What kind of snowtires are you running? I have had to drive in a couple blizzards on all seasons and have never been so scared in my life

Wow 700 bucks. Don't know what pre order means. Does it mean they are not available yet? Who knows.

Will heavy snow accumulation weigh it down or fall off?

Get a good car cover made for outdoors and it won't stick unless you put it on wet. Better than having melting ice chunks sliding down your paint.

my 06 sits out all winter...wash/wax, dont worry about snow, just dont brush it off as the brushes will scatch the paint. biggest worry is mice- check the airbox before starting(battery should be unhooked anyways) for mice and do NOT run a STP or other all paper filter...the mesh backed air filters kept mice out of my engines 4 times last 3 years(mustang and mercury both twice- mice must love the airboxes).
I wouldnt cover with anything- i covered my 69 the winter i had the body off our galaxie, the cover beat the hell out of the paint. snow sitting there is harmless as water, a cover fluttering in the wind abrades the paint. wax will protect it imo.
