winter driving
Does anyone put sand bags in the trunk? im thinking about 2 60lbs tubes to help with traction in the snow. This is my daily driver. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Sounds about right. Also, go for real snow tires, the narrower the better, prefferably on a second set of rims to make the switch easy each seasonal swap. I had a 94 Gt that I drove through 7 winters like this with no problems.

Extra weight in the trunk will help your traction in a straight line. But, be careful when you make a turn. Extra weight near the back end of the vehicle will encourage it to swap ends in slippery conditions. Good snow tires (studs if they're legal where you are) will help a lot.
These Mustangs are pretty good on the slippery. I had no trouble with mine last winter, even on freezing rain. I've got an auto and I just started it off in 2nd. Actually, left it there most of the time. Worked just great. And that was with the factory Pirellis.
Deep snow is another story altogether. Then it's time to leave the Stang in the garage and use your 4WD Jeep if you have one

A good set of 4 snow tires will do more for you than anything else if it's your daily driver. All seasons and summer tires are made of different compounds that are not as pliable in the cold as winter tires are. Once you are at about 20F, all seasons become quite hard, and lose their grip easily.

The S197 has better weight distribution than the earlier versions, which will help, but really tires are the key. If you don't have M+S rated tires don't even think about driving it in the snow.

Just added two 40# bags of salt to the trunk today, expecting 2" by morning, dont think most of it will stick, ground is too warm. In the spring I will dump the salt in the water softener.

Or if you get stuck, you can dump it on the ground near the tires. Actually, I'm with Stoenr on not putting salt in the car. Those bags can get holes in them and eventually leak. At least sand you can vacuum out with no potential corrosion damage. and you can still use it on the ground for traction aid if necessary.
