Window Tinting question?
#62
Good point, kev. Stock tint is real light though, IMO. I don't like a lot of tint... but I think I will go 40% all around. Front side windows maximum in Louisiana is 40%. What is the number of the stock tint, btw? 75%?

When I got my old car tinted I had a choice of the Llumar (3-4year) or 3M, the guy said that the Llumar would last at least 3-4 years before it started to turn purple, but the 3M was using some new technology which would keep it from ever changing. If you want the tint to be black forever go with the 3M, what's $80 for top of the line tint?

i asked the same question before they did mine.
i thought maybe they would remove a fuse or something... but nope.
paid 110 for the tent job.... and didn't have any issues with the window moving down 1/4 inch.
just wait a few days... roll all the way down...
no issues.

Remember, the color of your interior has a LOT to do with how dark the tint "appears" to be.
I have 15% one sides and back, nothing on front, and it looks lighter because of my Medium Parchment interior.
Right now I plan on going with 15% on side windows, 5% on quarter windows and rear.
Should look real good since I'm getting the dark charcoal this time.

I don't think they use a "3-4 year tint" down here in FL. Pretty much every shop around will charge you $110-145. The difference is just in the quality of workmanship. Best price is not always the best deal.
I have only heard of one person that I know who has had a problem with the tint/cops.

Sorry to bring an old topic back to life, but I am going to tint my windows soon I hope. California says 70% on sides and whatever on the back. I was wondering if 70 was light or dark and what is on the car stock.
If anyone have pics of 70 that would be cool. Thanks

From what I understood we are not allowed to tint our front windows in CA so assuming 70 is probably what the windows are stock. However, my last car had a medium light tint all the way around, think it was 38, which looked nice and I had no problems with being pulled over. I guess it depends on how busy your local police are as to how agressively the enforce the tint laws.

I'm in SoCal. Think I would be safe going 50?
The mustang up above with the 35% looks pretty similar to the tint I had in my trade in, never got any looks because of it and it was plenty dark enough to look good and be functional.
Also I'd highly recomend FormulaOne Ultimate series tint, full metal tint without the mirror finish. Life time warrenty against discoloration ect. and very durable/scratch resistant. All dyed tints will eventually discolor but the full metal ones will not.
