times than 6 speed.
motor trend - auto 0-60 -6.1 1/4 -13.6
car and driver 6speed 0-60 -5.2 1/4 -13.8
road and track 6 speed 0-60 -5.3 1/4 - 13.9
i know they always have different times depending on many factors. is the auto that good?

It's a 5 spd, not a 6 spd. A 6 Spd isn't currently available. We won't see one until either the Cobra or a SE model.

As to your question, i would guess it is a combination of the auto being much improved in the new cars, and the fact that those particular magazine drivers aren't all that good at launching a manual. MM&FF and 5.0 & Super Fords will have much improved times for their manual equipped cars. Because, their drivers race at the track all the time.

The new autos are impressive, but a well driven manual should still win most races.

I think the gear ratios of the auto are better spaced and help in the low end, which translates to better 0-60 times, and thus improves the quarter mile times. The manual is still a 5 speed, and will probably exceed the 5-speed auto if Ford changes to a 6 speed. Also, it is reported the throttle body closes some at upper rpms, and impacts the overall performance of the manual and the stick. If both cars had a performance tune and were driven perfectly, I'd say the manual would probably beat the auto, as it puts more power to the ground.

Stock for stock though, the auto is a significant improvement over the wider ratio 4R70W used in the SN95's and has a better computer processer to help performance.

Motortend got a faster time out of the manual, but not by much:

13.5sec for the manual and 13.6sec for the auto.

Regardless of the times....I got a manual because they are just that much more fun to drive. If someone told me to get an auto because it was faster (and let's pretend that it was a proven fact) I would still buy a manual tranny. Looking at the times above that Dan posted another way I look at that is I just beat an auto by 1 second and saved over $1,000.00 by not buying the auto tranny

Not to worry...the auto is awesome, but the stick rules! Someone's already got a 13.35 on their manual '05. Bone stock too.

drop in a 6 speed in the mustang and a couple addons and even without a power adder the 05 has crazy potential

imagine putting 25K INTO a 05 GT...think of how insanly fast it would be..for same price of a GTO

A 6 speed trannie will NOT help the '05's 1/4 mile times. :bang: The exta gear is an additional OD gear inbetween 4th & 5th on the GT trannie.
