I'm looking outside at 4" of snow, and I'm supposed to pick up my car this week. Ah well.

 

I'm driving in the snow, actually today freezing rain. Good old Michelin X-Ice tires. As far as the salt, I'll wash and maintain the car like the others I have had. I don't plan on having the car forever so if it starts to rust in 10 years that will be someone else's problem.

 

Congrats Dan! I know you are excited just as well. Can't wait to see your pics.

 

Who will be the first to post a 05 covered in snow?

 

If my car wasn't at the dealer right now getting the windshield replaced (damaged during transport) I would take a picture of it covered in ice. Now that is what I call a "cool" car

 

How are the tires? On ice, snow? Did you put them on steel rims or stock rims? I might be purchasing a set since I'm not sure the pirellis will cut it.

Did you add any weight in your trunk?

Hmmm, I ran this morning at 7 am and it was in the mid 60's.

 

I shivered this morning about the same time with temp around 24 degrees - and haven't stopped yet!

My wife and I plan to take a mid-winter break in Fla next March. Perhaps we'll even drive the new Stang rather than fly. Anyone else thinking of a Stang roadtrip to the Sunshine state???

We know the feeling. My '02 Vert doesn't even come out of the garage when it rains (as it tends to once in a while here in Georgia) and I don't expect the '05 Vert will not be treated much different when it gets here, ...the "airport" car goes into action during those periods.

Just returned from a Thanksgiving trip to Colorado (the family home) in the wife's '05 something-else where we drove through scattered gravel (sometimes called "novice-rocks") and lots of chlorides (NaCl, MgCl, etc.). Needless to say, something-else got car washes along the way and we have made a point of splashing through puddles upon our return, ...anything to wash out the chlorides before they do damage in the warmer weather (salts normally do more damage in the spring as the weather warms than in northern winters that tend to remain cold during winter months).

I guess living in the south (away from salt air, that is) is OK as long as you don't visit the snow and ice belt in the winter.

Anyway, ...enjoy the Pony when the sun shines.

It's not the ice and snow that abuses it, its the road salt they put on the roads to melt the ice and snow.

Yup It's that time again. Up in Albany, Ny!!! Woke up today to see 4 inches on the ground and it's still snowing at a good clip. Saw the first salt truck drive by. I cringe every time i see one of those trucks go by. Salt is a car killer.

 

Rust proof + wash every week and you'll be fine if you have to drive in the winter.

My Probe GT was rustproofed every year and now 10 years later, driven year round in lots of salt, still has no rust.

Last week we had similar conditions but not as bad as this morning. I was all over the road with the pirellis (all season my hiney, maybe in florida). I slapped on the Michelin's last week. All I can say was a HUGE difference in traction. I didn't add any weight in the trunk, no need to . They grip really good. I have always used snow tires and so far these are the best. I mounted them to the factory rims because I am just keeping them for winter use. I am getting different rims and tires for the summer.

You're right of course Dan......Modern cars are vastly better than the "Old" days. BUT as long as I don't HAVE to drive it, I just can't bear to do it in this #$$@%. :notnice:
