occasionally I drive in the slow lane only because the rest of the idiots here in Cali think that the speed limit in the fast lane is still 65, and no one is in the slow lane so I go speeding on by everyone as they rush to merge over to that "fastlane" causing the traffic jams and leaving that slow lane open.....but as for the gas mileage, I never pay attention to it, I dont care, but about a month ago I accidentally reset the mpg gauge after filling up so I decided to watch it since I was hopping directly on the freeway and driving some distance (N county to S SD), and I noticed after having driven about 20-30 miles at 80mph that my gas mileage went up about 3-4 mpg when I started driving 90-95 mph (over the next 15 miles), wierd huh, maybe it was getting more air in there, who knows.

 

Answer is simple: You look so much cooler driving slower.... Like "hey, I have the power, but I don't need to use it"

And you can't always see people's reactions when you're blowing by them.

 

I sustained over 140 for about 10 minutes on the autobahn

 

i get her going over 130 just backing out of the garage....no seriously I have done it though, lots of fun and the first time was against a vette on an empty freeway as well.

 

I was driving in the slow lane with the cruise control set at 65, the posted speed limit on the turnpike. A 2000 something Cobra wizzes by blowing me away. 2 miles down the stretch he's on the side of the road with the hood up. At least my baby lived to ride another day.

 

It is cool to take your time,especially when you know your car is fast and don''t have to prove it. You also collect many more admiring glances. Drive fast and you get attention from the wannabee jerks who want to prove their little cars can beat you. The law also takes close notice too.

 

You have something against driving the speed limit? I know I don't for 2 reasons.

1. No tickets
2. Gives people a longer look at my car

 

Why travel at the speed limit? Any car looks impressive if it's going fast. But how many cars look this good going slow? Think about it. Little dogs run around barking but nobody is afraid of them. Big dogs look mean, have a low growl, and everybody is afraid of them. Just think of that slow 05 mustang as big dog.

 

I'm in the slow lane because I'm only on the freeway for 2 exits.

Very true. It seems to be the same mentality 'Vette owners have. It's not too often I see one of them haulin' in the left lane.

 

I set it at 75 (limit is 65).. If someone is going less than 75 in the right lane then i'm forced to use the left lane, but the right lane is the lane I try and stay in for the courtesy of others.

On another note, I have taken it up to 140 once whilst racing a 300C I suppose I could have let off at 130 but there wasnt a soul on the road so I took advantage and made the shift to 5th

 

I have been trying to make an effort to cut down on the speeding, but it's very hard. My last car, a 2003 civic ex, you could romp it slam the gears and only be doing 40 at the top of third (second if you really wanted to draw attention). Now it's just way too easy to let the foot go a little heavy and the sound, oh man, I just cannot get enough. I know the slp's are probably a little obnoxious to others but they sing such sweet music to me. I can't seem to do better than 14 MPG, I see I'm not doing much better and figgure screw it and let her rip.

Slow lane, only if I'm exiting in the next 1/4 mile.

 

Middle lane for me. Just trying to avoid getting a ticket. My car is arrest me red and it does attract a lot of attention - sometimes the attention I don' want I have had at least 3 HWP cruise up along side me and look directly at me. All I can do is smile and give a wave

 

Yeah John - me too - highways - I can't help it - my car is just incredibly SLOW and can barely get out of its own way......

 

When people ask me why I don't drive mine fast all the time or chirp the tires when I leave the house, I tell them my car is like a Rottweiler. It doesn't have to bark to prove that it's powerful. You know that just by looking at it.

 

Virtually every car on the highway can move at 90 or 100 miles an hour. It's all a matter of knowing when to do it and having the desire. I'll cruise along at about 70 and get passed all day long by Civics doing 90, I'm sure they go home and tell their buddies "I smoked an 05 Mustang GT today"! I like knowing that they only get by me because I chose to let them. And I really like knowing that they know that too! Kind of a cocky attitude I guess. Man, I'm starting to sound like a vet owner!

 

According to Ford this car "looks like its moving when its standing still"

So, with that logic, our car is actually speeding when you're doing the posted limit

 

I do the flow of traffic or speed limit + 5 when I'm out in the sticks.

This car is so noticable at long distances, I'm sure it just begs a speed reading from any officer with an itchey trigger finger. (I wouldn't know though, as I don't have a radar detector yet).
