Who has the best quality Bullitt rims?
Who has the best quality Bullitt rims?
I want to pick some up soon as my current tires are getting bald. Which vendor has the best quality Bullitt rims? I want something thats going to last me for a while. Any opinions are appreciated. I'm looking for the standard 18x9 and 18x10.
Thanks!
Thanks!
one piece forged is best...but the only ones I know of are the Alcoa/Shelby
I'm curious on the 'bullitt' wheels too- eventually I hope to do the 18x9/10 also, and know a few manufacturers are making them...morxchin, american racing, a few others...think there likely all from mexico or china...the American Racing 'torq-thrust-d's I bought thru Summit for the 69 when they re-released them in 93~94 were from southern california- really pisspoor quality IMO...you can see the lug pattern is not centered in the spokes, a couple had really sharp lips- coulda cut a tire in mounting...the centerline telstars I bought- also from Summit (2 sets- for a camaro and for the mark VII) also had the off center drilling, sharp edges...we machine wheels at work, have seen nothing but aluminum the last 29 years, maybe just notice more than most folks would...OEM forged wheels are 100% machined, where the cast just get a skim cut relatively speaking...the 20" shelby wheels finish up a bit over 20# IIRC, but came in at way over 100...the Lamborgini Reventon wheel had near 12 hours in cutting the face alone on the prototypes...we ran cast pontiac ASC/Maclaren cast wheels back in 89 or so, they only lost a few pounds, and only took a few minutes to turn...but over the years Ive seen the big lathes crash twisting forged wheels like pretzels, they wont break...the cast ones bust up pretty easy...sure wish someone offered a forged torq-thrust looking wheel- wouldnt be cheap, but wouldnt be cheep either...I busted the center out of a crager when I dismounted the tires off my 69 way back when, swore Id 'never buy cast again', but when I saw the torq-thrusts being offered again, just couldnt resist- they just look too right on a mustang...now much as I hate cast, want the18" bullitts too... tooo bad there isnt a cold forged version available.
