Okay this might be a goofy topic, but I have seen worse. I looked at my engine tag, located on the driver side of the valve cover, tonight and found when and where my engine was built.

I read awhile back that the Mustang GT engine was to be built at the Romeo Engine Plant. Then the other day I read a thread where the Essex Plant was producing the engine until the Romeo Plant gets up to speed or something.

Well, my engine was build at the Essex Plant in Windsor, Canada and is was built back on Feb. 4, 2004. My engine had to wait for 10 months before placed in the car, the car was built week of Nov. 29th. The decal on the inside of the drivers door has 12/04 on it. So check yours out and lets see where that horses were built and how long before the actual car was built.............

I must have read that engine tag wrong, were they even building these engines in Feb of 04??????????

Chris, I looked at the tag on my engine, and as far as I can detect, your build date for your engine is the first of September, 2004. I took a pic of the tag on mine, which is stickered 15/09/04, which would have to mean the fifteenth of September, 2004. My GT was produced the week of Sept 13th, and I took delivery on October 21st, 2004. So looks like my engine was built the same week as my Stang was being assembled. What do you think? Attached is a pic of the tag on my engine. When I was in the military, the date always started with the day/month/year. Since mine starts with 15, logic tells me this applies in my case.

In Canada they use a reverse of the date and day so you car's engine was built on Sept 1st 2004 not Jan 9th. There is a photo below of another engine that says 15/9/04 so that is not possible. We are so use to the way do our dates all the same the cars are still awsome wherever and whenever the engines were built.

Will the Essex be more collectable? Since it was the early motor, and only for 2005.

Highly unlikely unless there is some fundamental difference in the two engines. Is there? I think the answer to that one is no. Now if one turns out to be more reliable then the other for some reason ...........

Hopefully next week I will be able to go out to my garage and check to see which one I have. Still waiting for my train to come in!

My V6 has a date of July 7, 2004. My build date was the week of Sept. 7 but I can not see where it was built. Any clues?

You're absolutely correct!!! Bloody Canadians using the date presentation style used worldwide - except in the good old USA! I assumed (you know what they say about that word) that it was US style and all my numbers fit. That's a big whooops on my part!

Thanks for straightening me out. A date of September 1 fits right in with my car build date of September 3.
