Wheel bearing noise?
Wheel bearing noise?
Ok so here’s the deal, one more unsolved stupid mystery with this car. 09 v6 car. Had a bad “howling” in the right front. Turn to the left , went away. Assumed rh bearing is ****. Ordered one from eBay. Installed car still had the same sound. Researched the bearing, all the reviews say they are garbage. Ok so I run up to summit, buy a Moog bearing. Installed it per spec, took for test drive...same thing nothing changed. So I went back, got another bearing and tried once more. Same f’n thing. All the bearings that have come off are always “sloppy”. I’m baffled by this. I’m gonna rotate the tires tomorrow but I can’t see that being the issue. Next thing is I’m gonna change the whole spindle. Any ideas?
Definitely could be the tires. I remember my General AS-03 GMAX, and good grief were they *loud*. Good, but always sounded like wheel bearings. Swapped to the Nexen N5000s and I'm happy. So yeah, maybe the tire moving could fix it.
Yes, it could be the spindle, as the old wheel bearing (first one) may have wallowed out the thing if the inner race were to spin on it, and/or weld itself... I'm sure you'd have seen that, though, right?
Otherwise, if you're talking the suspension side of the spindle... probably not, but you'd just get up in there with a pry bar and start pushing/prodding/pulling things to see if any of the bushings are loose.
Beyond that... Brake dust shield broken. Brake caliper siezed. Brake caliper pin stuck/seized. Brake rotor is warped. Brake pad is worn/bad/? and only rubs in a turn.
Basically, brakes, check'em. (points at upper left for some reason, think it's some internet thing...)
Also, fender splash shields/undertrays, ensure not rubbing. That was mine, but in reverse, would be there, be worse in a turn, be less in the other, couldn't figure it out... Oh. Those.

The thing that's bothering me a little is the 'sloppy bearings' you're reporting back. They will wear in as they get used, of course, which will make them be a little more smooth, but not sloppy... are you saying overly so, like grinding noises when they absolutely shouldn't? Or just maybe not as tight as they went in?
Dunno if any of that helps, but there ya go. Good luck!

Agreed with the tires, I had this drive me nuts for about a year when I got my 08 V6. I swapped out all the bearings checked every nut to make sure they were to spec to no prevail. Went in for inspection and needed tires. When I drove it home no noise.
