Hi guys, those of you who may know me from other threads know that i've had the itch to add another Mustang to my current stable. After having deals fall apart on both a 93' and 98' Cobra, I've looked to the current gen car. I have been looking at the possibility of picking up a GT500, but have recently realized how affordable the current GT has gotten. I'm thinking that perhaps a GT with a blower and minor suspension upgrades would give me close to GT500 power for much less money...... so anyways here's what I found i'd like you guys to tell me if it sounds like a good deal, and also guide me in what I should look for as problem areas for these new 05-09 cars that I honestly know little about. One of my main questions is, do you think buying an 06' is a safer bet than an 05'?

2006 Mustang GT Mustang GT, 5 speed. Vista Blue fully loaded has the optional 18' wheels this one is at a dealership it has 25,000mi and the asking price is $19,400.

 

I too think that a well taken care of non-modified clean low 5,000~35,000 mile 2005/2006 GT for a very affordable $12,000~$18,000 would be a VERY good "low budget" high performance option. If I had the discretionary cash for a third SN197 Mustang right now I would be looking hard for a good deal on a nice GT.

As the economy continues to spiral into the sewers, these great Mustang deals will continue to get better and better...

 

I also looked at the GT500 option. I just sold an 06 Premium Vert. The market is tough as I worked with the buyer to move it before winter. Look to the mid-west for a deal before Nov. 1st.

 

I work at a large volume Ford dealership and Mustang is one of our best sellers - new or used. Used S197 GT coupes tend to bring around $15K to $19K on average, depending on miles, equipment, and condition.

Sounds like all three you've noted are in the ball park, so check them all out in person and see how flexible each is with their price.

 

Thanks for the support guys, I think if I can't get a GT500 at the price i'd like i'm gonna pick up one of these low mile GTs. I'm just shocked how the market is flooded with low mile GTs.

 

Just like everything right now, it's a buyer's market. Good if that's were you're at, and not on the other end needing to sell.

 

What kinda MPGs are you guys getting with stock 4.6 manuals on regular? I'm thinking of making an 05' gt as a daily driver.

I can only tell about my auto. When I drive easy I get 17 in town 25 hwy, that was before 4.10 gears.
It would be good for you to compare stock Gt #'s vs those with CAI & custom tune. I get better milage with CAI & tune, plus aftermarket exhaust.

 

I average 23 mpg with my 05 Manual GT (country/suburb) driving. Its pretty much a daily driver with 50k miles on it. I can get 27 on the highway at 65 too!

 

Its amazing how the prices of cars have dropped on V6 and GT's. Wow.
My gass milage is the same as the others.

 

OK, I should have also mentioned this earlier, but how many of you drive your 05-09 Mustangs in the snow? Are they fairly decent in the snow (I know it can't touch an AWD or FWD in snow) but the cheaper i see these the more I think i'm going to sell my 97 GT to my neighbor and buy an 05' GT that I have been eying for just over $15,000........

GT 5SPD is my fave DD; i drive it in the snow but most roads are clean. i will buy sandbags this year and always have a shovel to dig myself out

 

I use mine in the snow. The traction control helps out alot. I like a rear wheel drive better than a front wheel drive IMO.

 

Just bought an 06 silver GT with red leather option, 18in wheel option, 5 sp, and 13k miles for $18.5k and added a 5 year/100k miles dealer extended warranty for another 2k. Not a scratch inside or out. Totally stock. Love this car. The engine was spotless top to bottom. Don't think it ever saw rain.

I bought mine at a toyota dealer because I loved the options and low miles. But I was leaning toward a bunch of low mile certified Ford used cars at Ford dealers. They automatically come with a 5yr/100k powertrain warranty. Woulda saved me 2k but I fell in love with this one. Plus the warranty I bought was bumper to bumper.

 

I'm looking at a silver 05' with red leather. The car is fully optioned for 05' (no 18' wheels ). It has about 25k on it but looks flawless, he is asking $16,500 but I'm trying to get it for $14,500....... The car runs strong and is bone stock.

 

I drove through the Chicago winter through the last two years with my 2005GT. Last year was horrible, we had several 12"+ snowfalls and I never got really stuck. It got hairy a couple of times, but that was on the stock Pirelli's. This year I got good snow tires and I can't wait for it to snow so I can try them out. But you should be fine - weight in the trunk and patience. Also, if you're in the snow try to avoid stopping on steep grades. The one time last year I had to get out and push I was stopped on a steep driveway in the snow and just couldn't make it up the hill.

 

For what it's worth, I just came from local dealership and there's 5K rebate on Gt's. The have a well optioned one there for 22K. Unbelieable! I wish I could get my wife one. But, with stdless snow tires & sand bags in trunk, it's ok in the snow (better than previous Stangs) we need one car that is real good in snow for hwy trips in winter.

 

If new GTs are selling that low I may hold off and try to get an 05 for less than 15k! I think the best time to buy will be when the 10' model hits the streets.
