81 in a 65, in a '92 Tempo on I-74 near Danville, IL. Only $70, so no big deal. The one that hurt was 65 in a 55 on Hwy 12 in Hillsdale, MI (same car) - the cop confiscated my license to be returned when they received payment on that whopping $50 ticket (supposedly since I was out of state they had no way of enforcing that fine if I chose not to pay it). Luckily I didn't get pulled over in the mean time cause I sure wasn't gonna stop driving.

I thought I had an 80 in a 55 this afternoon. I saw a state trooper closing in FAST in my rear view (no lights), but I got over and slowed down and he blew right on by.

I think that if you had mentioned that the cop didn't show up, he wouldn't have questioned how you got off.

Well, perhaps your right but I don't appreciate being called a liar. I didn't what to post the whole story because even the shortened story is still long but apparently a few people are interested so here it is:

I was going to work one morning @ 3am. It’s about 14 miles to my work from home and almost immediately after pulling out of my subdivision I saw headlights coming from way down the road, My first turn is less that a ¼ mile up the road, I made my turn and got about ¾ of a mile when I saw the headlights turn on to the same road. These are back country roads and I travel them 5 mornings a week at least and it is very unusual for me to even see 1 car all the way to work. Almost immediately this car was right on top of me riding my bumper. I sped up a little and so did he so then I slowed down to below the speed limit so he would pass and he stayed right on my a$$ (dangerously close). I then sped back up to 90 and this continued till the next turn which was about 1or 2 miles. When I got to the next turn I was pretty nervous as there is nothing out here if there is a problem you are SOL. I decided if I made the turn and he stayed on me I was going to hammer it and go to the nearest place I new which was a Hess station 13 miles away. I turned and so did he and again he was on my a$$ so I hammered it. I was in a ’95 Cadillac Deville which has a factory speed limiter of 112 so for 13 miles I did 112MPH with this jack-a$$ right on top of me. It was not until I got to the lighted gas station that I saw he was a cop. He did a felony stop and asked me what I was thinking. I told him that he scared the heck out of me and that I didn’t know if he was an axe murderer or what the heck to think. About that time 3 more units pulled up as he had requested back up while we were still moving. He said that he didn’t know if the car was stolen or what was going on and that he was on the radio with dispatch and they were calling my house to see if my car had been stolen because they were chasing it down the road. I later found about that this was a load of crap because no calls came to my house that morning and yes I am listed. I asked him why the heck he got on my a$$ like that and freaked me out and he said he was trying to read my plate which still didn’t explain being on my a$$ all that time. I then said if you are a cop and had a problem why in all this time didn’t you turn on you lights and pull me over instead of risking both our lives with this ridiculous chase with no lights on and his reply was that he didn’t want to pull me over until back up arrived because he didn’t know if I had just killed someone or what to expect. I said if you were worried about me imagine how I felt being the one chased. He had no response to that. He then got my info and went to talk to the other three and after about 20 minutes came back with a ticket and said he kind of bought my story that I was scared and that was why he wasn’t going to arrest me and he then proceeded to give me a ticket for 131 in a 35. I didn’t argue with him, signed and went on my way. Among a tone of things wrong with this entire ordeal the address he sited for the ticket was when he first got behind me and not only was I not speeding at that point but the posted speed limit there was 45 not 35 like he wrote so even his own info on the ticket was wrong and discredible plus a had paperwork for court to prove that the factory cut of on that vehicle was 112 so it was absolutely imposable for me to be going 131 as he said (he was not using radar he was pacing). I went to court with all kinds of documentation, pictures of the speed limit sign at the address he sited, satellite imagery of the entire rout, a copy of the formal complaint I filed against him which was at the time of court still under review, and a ton of other stuff to prove my case and it turned out after all that work and research he didn’t show up, CASE DISMISSED!!!

Do you obscure your plate number with an FOP shield?

I got pulled over for doing 95 in a 55 in upstate NY near Cortland on the Thruway. I saw the cop and he tagged me at 89 in a 55. He pulled me over asked why, I told him I was speeding and showed him my license and PBA cards (From Long Island). Let me go with a "just slow it down." I was so stunned I drove 55 all the way home. I was banking on at least a $500 ticket. Was my lucky day.

160 in a 65......I was pretty sure I was going to make friends with my new cellmate Bubba Luv.

Fortunately the cop that pulled me over was a Mustang owner and let me off after a long discussion on modded mustangs with a smile, a "nice car", and a ticket for 80 in a 65.

Haven't done anything that stupid since (doubt i've gone over 100 since). I learned my lesson and was lucky enough to come out ahead and alive on that one.

I can't beat any of those big numbers (thankfully never caught on one of my high speed (more than 120 mph) runs, but I may have the award for lowest - 18 mph in a 15 mph zone.

90 mph in a 65 zone, about 10 years ago in my '89 LX 5.0. I was doing about 110, but my radar went off and was able to get down to 90 by the time he hit me with his radar. The cool thing was I got the ticket in Florida, so my insurer (in California) never found out and never jacked my rates.

I just got a ticket for 70 in a 55. I was doing 90, and the officer got me at 83. But I was very, very respectful, so he wrote me up for 70, which was just a $90 fine. As he walked away, the officer actually said "thanks for being so polite," as if to say that he let me off easy because I wasn't being a ****.

Btw, a friend of mine gave me the following tips for getting out of a ticket, as relayed by her dad (a former officer):
1. Pull well to the side of the road so that the cop is far out of harm's way when he walks up to your car.
2. Turn off your engine and radio.
3. Turn on your interior lights.
4. Roll down your window.
5. Put both hands on the top left of the steering wheel so the officer can see where your hands are as he approaches your car.
6. Address the cop politely ("good evening, officer.")
7. Immediately admit your mistake ("I'm sorry I let my speed get up so high," or "I'm sorry I didn't come to a complete stop, I wasn't paying attention," etc.)
8. Do not argue with the. Instead, apologize profusely. And then apologize some more. Do not lie to the officer.
9. Ask for the officer's permission before you reach for your wallet, insurance, registration ("may I get my registration out of my glove compartment?").
10. Apologize some more for wasting his time with your stupid error.

With the above tips, I've talked my way out of 4 tickets entirely, and reduced 2 other tickets significantly, in the past 10 years. Jut remember that one of the most common ways an officer is killed or injured in the line of duty is routine traffic stops. So when you make the officer's job easier (and put them at east that they are not in danger as they're dealing with you), he/she is oftentimes very appreciative of your respect and politeness.

Can't remember the speed, but it was 45 mph (well, the equivelant in KPH) over the limit in Ontario. I was on my way to Detroit in my Jag and I didn't notice the limit had dropped. I figured it was no big deal, being a whole other country and all.... boy was I wrong. I ended up getting 8 points on my NY dl. I didn't even know until a couple years later when NYS decided to start charging a "driver responsibility assesment fee" to anyone with 6 or more points in 6 months - for the last 5 years. Two months before it would have been over 5 years I got a bill from NY for $450. $450 + $300 for the ticket made for an expensive ticket

Got a Ticket yesterday-- no kidding

Funny, huh? Actually it wasn't for speeding. I was in Los Angeles pulling a car hauler I just rented. I was pulled over for being in the fast lane with a trailer. So the human pit bull pulls me over and asks why I was in the fast lane with a trailer. I asked, Is that a problem? He said it was against CA law. I told him that I wasn't aware of the law since I was from Utah. He asked if it was illegal in UT and I said it wasn't (it isn't, I was rear ended in the fast lane by a big rig 3 years ago on a 5 lane stretch of I-15)
He asked for my reg and lic and then wrote me a ticket. Someone told me that CHP never ever cuts anyone slack. I was very polite. I even asked him which lanes I could drive a trailer in and he still didn't cut me a break. What a richard head.

Aren't they all Richard heads? Next time they pull you over ask him if he knows where that overpowering scent of bacon is coming from.

At least your not a resident of Va and suffering under the tyrant Kain. However please feel free to drive recklessly through our fair state and laugh at the locals as they end up paying 3,000 more in fines for doing the same thing.

No tickets in the Mustang yet, and none on my bike either.

The most annoying ticket was I think for 73 in a 55 area. Was coming back from seeing a movie in a town 60 miles away, had friends in the car, and the interstate was dead. Didn't slow down much having come from the part that was 75 out of town. Cop decided he had nothing better to do I guess and ended up asking for everyones ID. One of my friends didn't have it on him, so the cop escorted him back to the police car to run a check on him and verify his identity. Pulled up a warrant from an out of state unpaid ticket, and took him to jail. This was at 2am, took forever to bail him out and ended up ruining the rest of the weekend.

Worst one I had was a 93 in a 70, was on a long roadtrip following another group of people I knew not really watching what speed we were doing. The cop tagged their car, started moving to pull them over, then tagged and grabbed me. All in a Saturn too.

Since it was a state that didn't share ticket info with my home state, I just paid it off with no hit to insurance or my record. $200ish fine if I remember right. Remembering my friend being hauled off to jail over an unpaid ticket made me pay it real fast.
