what would you change about your car now that you have it?

i ended up getting my white gt/cs a month ago. it wasnt exactly what i was looking fro - but the more i have it - the more i like what i ended up with.

ok - i have had my car for a month now and was originally disappointed i didnt get the sirius. though i wish i could control it from the stereo - i have my unit mounted inside the console and the antenna is mounted on the rear package tray. i am glad it cannot be seen on the trunk lid. and since i listen to a couple of stations only, i dont have to worry about changing it up.

i am still torn on whether i want the hood scoop - but i am also now leaning towards the spoiler delete (mine has a spoiler now / no hood scoop)

so what do you wish you could have ordered your car from the factory with - or what did yours come with you wish you could have deleted?

We just bougt an 07 explorer limited and it has sirius sat. radio. Now when I'm in the Mustang I really miss the variety of sat. radio. Guess it would be pretty easy to retro fit it huh? Other than that I'm happy with everything!!!!!!!

1. A freaking moonroof. Seriously. Why isn't there one.

2. A freaking telescoping steering column. The rental Fusion has one....the car that is keeping Ford afloat does not. Not all of us have arms like Manute Bol.

3. A freaking set of 3.73 gears standard. I have 3.31s with the 18" wheels. 3.55s were a $100 option. What's the point? Both are ill-suited to a motor that needs to be shifted at 6200rpm.

4. A computer setting from the factory that mirrors what the tuner and cold air kits offer. It's 2007. Getting 300hp out of a 4.6L V8 is not impressive at all. My 96 Cobra made more than that. That was TWELVE YEARS AGO. Nissan is making as much power with a 5 year old 3.5L V6. No wonder why this company is teetering on the brink of financial ruin.

Other than that, I really like my car!

I just wish I had been able to get the standard bullits instead of the "bright machined" rims, but other than that, nothing. I probably wouldn't have upgraded my wheels and tires had I got the bullits.

Since I bought it as it came off the truck (off the lot) dec. 15, 2004, I didn't get exactly as I had built it on the internet. Wanted gt premium, sonic blue, IUP, black leather, manual, bullit rims and spoiler delete. I got premium gt, sonic blue, IUP, black leather, auto, bright machined rims and a spoiler. Both the spoiler and the auto have grown on me and am really glad I got the auto now.

Your '96 Cobra probably made around the same horsepower but less torque all while running on 91 octane and not meeting the current emissions standards. Having owned one a '96 Cobra and now an '07 GT, I would say that 300hp and 320ft-lb of torque on 87 octane is impressive.

Cobra had a hand-built all-aluminum engine that would wind out to 7,000rpm all day long. Over a decade ago.

What GM does IS impressive. A 6.0L engine that comes standard with 400hp, and is a tune and exhaust away from substantially more. And they do it with pushrods. Ford uses this brick of an engine that can only make real power with a blower. It also gets horrible fuel economy for all of the technology that's in it.

I'm not saying it's junk (I bought one afterall....), I'm just saying with the price tag that comes on these things, we should be getting a little more than some cool retro bodywork. The interior is kinda chinsey, and come on...a 5 speed still? Give me a break. Rattly F-bodies have gotten a 6 speed since 1993!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The motor makes good power, but nothing that impressive. Again, a 12 year old motor makes more. A 12 year old motor that is actually 15 years old, as it originally debuted in the Mark VIII in 1993. The thing is Ford DOES have better stuff, but they only offer it in Austrailia (the 380hp Hurricane motor).

I'll give you that one on this comparison

Do you mean power level only?

Since 6th gear is an overdrive, I was never convinced it was necessarily better that a 5-speed.

The rated horsepower and the actual outputs are not that far off. The current engine, while rated 5 hp less, seems to make more, at least according to what people are seeing on the dyno. The torque is what makes the difference. The 0-60 mph times indicate the S197 GT is quicker than that Cobra.

Pretty happy with the 05.
1.Would have like to seen Ford do the red interior properly, ie black seats (ok dark Charcoal) with red inserts, and red preforated leather on the door panels.
I would have really loved that from the factory.
1A.FULL leather seats rather than the inserts only being leather.
2.A nicer shifter handle for the auto, the Five Hundred and MKX have nice looking auto shifters. The Mustang t handle with a nice chrome shaft would have been nice too.
3. Footwell lighting
4. Overhead console w lights for the rear seating area
5. Upholstered door panels rather than the hard plastic.
6. A wood grain option IUP (Yeah I know I'm old school) or at least used the same IUP dash material on the center stack for a nicer looking interior.

Under the woulda been nice but still not bad catergory
Rocker panels without the indention below the door line.
The GT spoiler looks good, but I wish for a factory duck tail much like CDCs
Lower grille with the elongagated hexs on each side opened up.
Rear of the rear wheel openings flared more to prevent all the dirt on the lower quarter panel when its rainy.

Other than the mods I have done/have planned, I would not change anything. I ordered and got what I wanted. Regrets? When I ordered it I was torn between Redfire Metallic and Windveil Blue Metallic. I had always wanted a nice red convertible (my red '78 Fiat Spyder doesn't count). I didn't know at the time how hard it is to keep Redfire clean. It shows everything! If I had it to do over again, I would have chosen the Windveil Blue.

Minor: I would trade the compass in my mirror (turned off from day one) for a garage door opener or outside thermometer.

Major: tighter drive train, revs that drop when I depress the clutch.

Cosmetically...it's perfect - I do wish it had a little less wheel gap, but wouldn't want a harsher ride.

HID lights, HID lights, HID lights, Electronic Stability Control, footwell - glovebox - hood lights.

Styling - rear quarters could have had fenders flared and "opera" windows would have looked better if they butted up against the door windows (see new Camaro, Challenger)

Aside from the usual aftermaket stuff, I'd like the 18 inch polished bullitts instead of the optional 17's. But I do like them. I know I'm gonna get flamed to death for this one but I'm in my "large car" (semi) 12 to 14 hours a day. When I get back to the yard, I don't feel like shifting nothing!
Once I get going, I'm alright, but some days I just want to put that joker in "D" and go..

I've delt with thousands of mustangs and I custom ordered mine, so I'm pretty much good to go.

Only thing I was on the bubble about was the comfort group but passed on the extra weight of the power passenger seat. The thread is about available factory options, not wish list stuff.

For me the first thing was to ditch the ugly foam rubber steering wheel for the IUP one, and I threw in an IUP shift **** too.

Hey Maunte Bol lives in the next town over from me! Whats wrong with 300hp or an optional 500hp? your 96 cobra actually made 5 more hp and had 20ftlbs less torque, and ran 7.8 secs slower 0-60 at 5.88 while the 05 runs ~5.1 your 1/4mile is also slower in your cobra than the GT.

So making the same horsepower with more torque as a hand built engine with a mass-produced engine with 2 less camshafts and 8 less valves on 87 octane gas is not impressive? The three valve is all aluminum too.

You could pay $47K (plus dealer mark up) and get a shelby GT 500

Spoiler delete for me as well... I think the only other option that I could have gotten on the 06 was 18 inch wheels... But for the extra cost vs. benefit it is not worth it.
The only time I have seen a benefit from having sat. radio is when I travel to places like L.A. that don't have country radio stations. But then if I want music the Shaker500 has six disks ready for me at all times and NO commies!
