What kinda fuel mileage are you getting?
I've had my car coming up on 2 months and I'm getting a 15.8 average MPG. I live 1.5 miles from work so I'm pretty sure that has something to do with the low MPG.

Are you really measuing it or using the compter one. Reset it on the highway and your in the 30s! Personally I never keep track of that stuff with a 4 mile commute to work.

About 3200 into my GT/CS. Commute is about 37 miles each way, kinda combo of in town and urban highway.
I'm averaging just over 20 when I resist the reset urge ....but I have seen as high as 24.7 and as low as 17.6 on this loop. Most of the time less than 1/2 throttle is all it takes to make the casually annoying masses disappear in the rearview....
That all said, I've found the best way to get better gas mileage is to stop buffing the back of the throttle pedal with the carpeting on the floor... ......

You can't really measure highway/city mileage, the computer thingie is not real information. You can only manually measure total gas mileage by the ODO and fill-ups.

I get a pathetic 16-17mpg generally on my 17 mile commute, but it's better than my lightning
Honestly i was hoping it would be a LOT better than the lightning though
4700lb brick-shaped truck, 4.10 gears, 4 speed auto, 5.8 ohv w/supercharger & barely tuned running pig rich got 12-14mpg
3700lb car, 3.31 gears, 5 speed auto, 4.6 sohc n/a getting 16-17.
The only explanation I can think of is that I'm probably going a lot faster in the car and not noticing it. The truck acts like it's breaking the sound barrier when I'm going 70 so I don't go much faster than that.

Open Loop and Closed Loop are two terms used to describe the fueling mode the computer is in.
In closed loop fueling, the computer takes readings from the oxygen sensors which read +/- of 14.64 AFR (Stoich) and makes corrections for it. If your car is idling @ 13.5 AFR, the 02s can see this, and will know to pull out enough fuel to get back to stoich.
In open loop, the fueling is purely based off the MAF transfer function and the open loop fuel table. This table has to be calibrated any time you make MAF changes, and changes that affect the airflow of the MAF.
When a car is started, the computer is in open loop until certain criteria is met. The o2 sensors need to be heated to work properly, so this is the main reason there is a delay.
After the sensors are heated up, the car goes into closed loop and the O2 sensors make their corrections.
The computer will go back into open loop under a variety of conditions. Throttle Position (TP) is one way.
There are parameters in the computer that determine what the TP is for Open Loop, and other things.
When that TP is reached, and the car goes open loop, and richens up.

Cody,
With that short of a commute, anything your drive except a Prius will get crap mileage. Trust me, I live 1.5 miles from work. The real killer is the winter with both my daily drivers sitting outside all night.
My '97 Lincoln Continental gets around 13-14 for my daily commute. I can get low to mid 20's on a long highway drive. My V6 RX300 gets around 16 back and forth to work. My wife's V8 GX470 gets better mileage than my RX300, but her commute is 25 miles one way with some of it being highway miles.

I was averaging 13 in my V6 last year driving all city miles and sometimes going too fast. When I got my magnaflow muffler put on my gas mileage went up to 17.5 driving the same. I have no idea what my GT will get but I doubt it will be good.
