I think 5800 of my posts are oil threads Factory synth blend, exact same viscocity as the manufacturer says to use, and what a surprise, factory oil filters....

Motorcraft 5w-20 and motorcraft 820s filter. I did my first change at 500 miles, second at 1000, third at 3000, and will do it every 3000 from now on. Cars got 8700 miles now so it's almost time. I did the same thing with my truck (5.4 engine), it's got 104K miles now without a hitch.

I use Castrol Syntec 5W20 at a local shop. I don't see many posts for Castrol (2 including me I think), mostly Mobil1 and Motorcraft so that makes me wonder does Castrol suck or have there been any documented issues?

Mobil One 5w20

Pep Boys has a sale right now, 5 qts of Mobil One and a Mobil One filter for $30. That is like getting a discount on the oil, plus a free filter. I stocked up on that.

Well, if you are going to go the Mobil 1 route, a 5qt jug at China-Mart is about $20, and a M1 filter at any auto parts store is about $9....so the Pep Boys deal isn't really all that great.

I spend about 24 dollars for a 5 qt and a 1 qt Mobile 1 plus another 3 bucks for a Motorcraft filter at Wal-Mart.

Haven't actually used the mobile one yet. The first change I did at 1500 with motorcraft. Will do this one at 5000.

What kind of coolant and washer fluid do these cars have from the factory? My coolant is at the lower "fill" line on a cold engine.

still ford recommended motorcraft 5w20 and motorcraft filter for me...never heard of any issues with bottom ends, dont want any warranty concerns.

should admit changing tranny fluid to royal purple- I think i burnt a synchro for second at the strip powershifting, gotta say royal purple really made the shifting feel better...if I ever bought another stick, I'd go with their oil as soon as I got home- I think its 'better' enough it might have prevented damage...I couldnt get into 2nd past 4000 till I changed, now I can shift up till 5k...maybe wear/lapping, who knows, but the shifter feels better in all gears. Im not worried about warranty on the tranny as I figure if I break it beating on it it aint fords fault...I know redline shifting is abusive... however the motor has a rev limiter to keep it safe, and if it goes, I wouldnt feel bad at all about a claim- never heard of any stock engines coming apart, hope this ones still around in 20 years - love this car!
