My dad tossed me the keys to his Sonic Blue V6 about thirty minutes ago and asked for me to move it into the garage. I try to crank the car and the interior lights start to flash and then go out. Im like what the flip! So I try to start it and it won't even crank! I give it a sec, then try to crank it but it wont start! :bang: By this time im getting really T.Oed and let Dad try. It weakly fires up. He revs it a little then shuts it off and listens. The Shaker 500 is going skitzo! It keeps on rotating the discs inserted even after the car is off! It drained the whole battery!!!

Has this happened to anyone else?

Tonight is the first I've heard of this Shaker problem. It doesn't really suprise me though.

Actually my car sounds like it doesn't want to start sometimes & I keep thinking I am hearing the shaker spinning my cd's after the car is turned off & the doors open as well. I am hoping the Shaker replacement will not do this when I have it installed next week.

I really don't see why Ford wanted to switch from the Mach to the Shaker anyway. I had the Mach 460 in my 03 & had no problems with it at all, The shaker however has been a real pain. Let us know what the dealer says, if your dad takes it to the dealer.

I've had periodic trouble with my 500 shaker too. I just listen to FM anymore, and if I do play any CD's, it's when I am making a long drive. I'm just not into having my dash torn apart to keep putting replacement after replacement in, and then probably having the same issues. I will just leave it as it is, and if I ever decide to change, it will be to something different than this head unit.

I don't know about the power problems but I think the CD's are supposed to keep spinning after you turn off the ignition... my CD keeps playing after I turn the car off and open the doors, until I actually remove the key from the ignition. I get the feeling that's the way it's supposed to work.

Sorry about your car problems, Joel. My first thought was that your neutral safety switch was fried, but you were able to get it to crank, so down goes that theory! Hope the dealer can give you some answers. Share 'em with us when you get it repaired. Thanks!

Hey Kera, how goes it? I read that you were having the Shaker and your gas tank replaced. Did you have trouble at the pump or are you changing the tank as a precaution? I was curious how dealers are responding to owners coming in for these repairs/replacements. Are they aware of the TSBs regarding these issues or are owners educating them?

The dealership audio guy doesn't come in til Wed. and guess what? Todays Wednsday! I just went up to the dealer and they said thay had to order another Shaker 500 and it would hopefully be in next Wed. I guess Scooby Doo solved the mystery of the Shaker system!

How long does it take to install the new unit?

Hey Chris. Yeah, I've actually had trouble at the pump. Also, the dealer I took my car to is learning about the new 05's. I went to the dealer telling them what was wrong & they looked at it & a couple hours later they told me that they had to order a new Shaker & new gas tank. Needless to say I wasn't surprised.

In fact I told them that I had expected that. They kind of looked surprised. The only thing that scares me alittle is that they told me that they have never had a gas tank or shaker out of the new 05's. So I am keeping my fingures crossed that they get it right the 1st time.

BTW~For those who have had theirs replaced already, approx how long should it take them to install the new gas tank & Shaker?

I am getting my tank replaced once it comes in, they had to order a new one. I read the TSB and it was about 2 hours for the GT and a little less for the v6 I think. in terms of what ford says they should book for time.

Is the car standard and did you have the clutch in? The car won't start unless you have the clutch in all the way.
