Are there any vendors selling protective clear films for the shaker buttons?

I heard that the paint coming off the buttons happens due to residual oil from McDonalds french fries being on the fingers.

Actually Delphi makes these.. but that's besides the point
i got a Metra 70-5521 harness on the way, and will be replacing the head unit alltogether soon

at last.. full equalizer control, not just Bass and Treble

as for the paint chipping on the shaker.. i've had mine for 14 months and not a scratch
a friend got his Mustang 6 months after mine, and his chipped off after a few weeks..
i guess the head units simply don't go through QC cycles at all!

Well, you said it yourself: it's made by problem-fraught Delphi. Just another reason I ordered the OEM NAV system: it's made by Pioneer. BIG quality difference there.

Not necessarily. And even if they are, do you think for one moment there aren't quality differences amongst Chinese manufactured parts, just as there are in every other part of the world?

Pioneer > Delphi/Visteon - no matter WHERE it's made.

The speakers that come with the Shaker 500 are Made in China. It's the highest quality Chinese parts that Ford can afford

True, but then most of the household items in your home are made in China, from your nick nacks to your cordless phone.

I don't know if this head unit is made in China or not, but I do know it will have been designed and engineered in Japan, which is more than we can say for the Delphi unit.

The DVD Nav system looks really nice, but in all honesty even if it was available when I ordered my 07 GT, I would have passed on it due to the price. I don't watch DVDs in the car, and I don't have any DVD music CDs. I can buy a portable GPS nav unit for $300 that I could use in a rental car when I travel, or for my other vehicles. I don't have any complaints about my Shaker 500 other than that it was rather pricey and Ford should have included control buttons in the steering wheel like GM cars.

Well, you can't watch DVDs on this unit anyway, and that's really not the point.

As to comparing it to a portable GPS system...if you've used both, you know there is simply no comparison.

But I agree, they are a pricey option, though the Ford unit is no more expensive than the NAV systems offered by other auto makers.

For me it was a must-have.
