The 04 Six Speed shifter is the Same Part Number as the 07 Shelby.

It is notchy for the amateurs but I'll grant you it is stiff, which I happen to like. I think it is a good combination with the heavy clutch.
Thats the problem...how come every other manufacturer can make proformance cars with really strong trannies and clutchs yet still make them smooth and able to shift with a finger or two with a clutch as easy to step on as a economy car?

Have you ever driven a GTO/Camaro/Firebird? The shift feel is downright awful. We're talking guys who have owned them for years and still miss shifts.

You are right, I always got hungup on the 2 - 3 shift. It would always hang on the gate between 1 and 3. Mine was a 98 Formula.

So 6-speed transmission was meant for the Shelby only?

That hang up is caused by GM's "Skip Shift" .... they have it set up so that it will force you to throw into a higher gear if you're not wide open throttle. I have an ex-GF that has a 2000 Z28, and that drove me nuts driving her car. It would force you to go from 1st to 4th instead of into 2nd gear. They did that for better fuel economy.

And.... yes, the 6 speed will give you better gas milage, but only on the highway.... when you can use the 2nd OD. Again with the 2000 Z28... it didn't like 6th gear until about 75ish.. otherwise it would dog the engine.... since there seemed to be nothing on the bottom end of that motor anyways, it acted like it didn't want to run below 1500 RPMs.. and that's where that 6th gear would put you if you were going under 70.

Too many gears. Five is just right!

It is just something for the "keeping up with the Jones' " crowd IMO.

Your right the skip shift was for 1st to 4th, but I'm talking about a 2 to 3 shift. Besides that I bought the skip shift eliminator because I hated that skip shift crap so much!!! But it does help to avoid the gas guzzlers tax so it can't be all bad.

yeah... either way, I'd be way cool with a 6 speed. I'll eventually put one in... but it's gonna have to be built anyways... I'm gonna need it to handle 600hp. All pipe dreams at this point... but it's what I'm shootin' for. So, hopefully a built one will have a pretty smooth shift.

Well I just got the call from the dealer and was told that I have a build week of the 1/16. So 6 speed or not it doesn't make much difference to me anymore!

I assume that would be for the GT model and not the V6. Too bad they didn't release a 6 speed from the beginning.
This makes me wonder if it would be possible for Ford to have a 5 speed manual in a V6 and a 6 speed manual in a GT as standard equipment at the same time.

I have been Gleening Parts Info Looking for Verification that The 6 Speed Stick will be Used in Upcoming Models besides the Shelby and Low and Behold. There are Listings for a 6 Speed that should have been Released in Aug 05.on 06 Models. You Really have to dig but I found it in more than one spot. Bummer! Would have been Nice. I will post when I can find some further info on this LOST option.
kc
Kevin I'm just speculating here......Could it be just because of the GT-500, that one is listed? , and not for the GT ?

I almost went to the darkside and bought a 01 SOM T/A because of the NICE gas mileage it has on the highway (I do quite a bit of highway driving). Changed my mind when I heard it takes premium. A small gripe, yes, but why should I pay $0.20 cents more per gallon when regular is good enough for my economy self?

Well....that and it is a GM with the normal "crap-tastic" interior.

I doubt it will be offered on the GT unless the performance is increased substancially.
My thoughts exactly.

Seriously? I mean its no BMW or Bently, but it looks AND feels nice. Well the cloth does. The whole pleather seats thing still irks me...

But overall it looks nice and is well put together. Espically compared to a T/A or Camaro. Or any GM product IMHO. Radio dials look like melted Lego blocks.

I hope a 6-speed is offered on a Bullitt, if one is offered period.
