seems like a good deal I would pass on it tho.

 

yeah, but later you are going to kick yourself for buying it then have it lost when your modding gets serious, and we all know people go crazy if they can not put awesome mods untill the 6 YEARS are up

 

I hear you required to have a 1 year or 15,000 tune up at your co$t to also keep the warranty active.

 

48k isn't much past the standard warranty. Unless it's an additional 48k.

I doubled my warranty to 6yr, 72k total. It cost me $1300 I think.

 

That's what I was thinking as well, and if you are getting 48,000 miles it's probably another 12,000 on top of the already 36,000. If this is the case, then your quoted price is a hose job.....

 

Just went on Fordwarrantys.com.. here's what I was quoted:

2006GT (bought less than 1 yr ago, with 5K miles):

6yr/75,000 PremiumCare, $100 deductible = $1190-$207 (promo) = $983. Dealers can't touch this price. The $50 deductible is only $80 more.

 

It is for the extra 3 years.
Some people need that, not miles.
My 2003 truck is not quite to 22k mi. yet.

 

Actually, I took the printout with the price to my Dealer, and he said they would match the price.

 

I'm posting the flag on that one. I'm not directing it to you Rich, but to whoever told you that originally.

Besides, no tune up/maintenance is required at 15000 miles, unless you are changing the oil every 3K or 5K.

the reason i chose 48K miles is that i know i am hardly going to drive more than 4-5K miles a year...if that!

 

You *may* want to see how much the warranty with 60K or 75K miles is.

Two reasons for this:
1) if for some reason you need to sell the car, then the new owner could have it transferred (and you could get that money for the car, saying that it has XX miles/XX years of warranty left)

2) if for some reason you drive the car more miles than originally expected.

It may be worth getting more mileage for only a few bucks more

No problem. I have the 6yr/75K ESP. I will probably not go that high with mileage, as much as I would like to (an 05 with 15K miles currently). But, it's good to know that I could.

Also, keep in mind that most cars start having issues with more miles, not necessarily with time. For example, when you buy a used car, you get usable miles. An 05 with 10K miles may be better than an 06 with 25K miles, because the 05 has a lot more useable mileage eventhough it is older.

But, in the end, only you can determine whether it's worth it or not.

 

Sorry, I forgot to say something else:

Look around on the internet/google for ford warranties. There are MANY sites that sell them, and they are usually just dealers in different parts of the country.

Once you find a good price, go to the dealer where you bought the car, and see what they can do. You can always go back to the website seller/dealer if needed. But, just make sure that it is a legitimate seller of the warranty.

Your local dealer may not be able to match the price exactly, because some of the online sellers have it below cost. But, your local dealer should be able to give you a pretty good deal, and you have the assurance of knowing that it is legitimate.

 

Just curious... does it really matter if you buy the extended warranty from your dealership? I thought any Ford Dealership has to honor "Ford" extended warranties (no matter where you buy it).. especially if it's from a legitimate vendor?

 

No...it doesn't matter where you buy it. All I meant was that he should search the internet, find a good deal, and then see if his dealer could match it. (No sense buying it online if his dealer could sell it for the same price...that way, he can be assured that it is legitimate)

The warranty is just like a car or parts to the dealer: there is a "list price", and then dealer cost. So, some of the online vendor's price is their actual cost, and sometimes it's even less. This is why your local dealer may not be able to match it exactly.

But, if the dealer where you bought your car was good to you, I think you should buy it from them (assuming it's just A LITTLE more money). Now, if it's a couple hundred bucks more at your local dealer, then you could just buy it online.

I believe I got the premium care...whichever is the one that covers the most is what I got. I believe that plan pretty much covers everything under the sun, and is basically an extension of the factory warranty.

I believe with the lower plans, items like the A/C, radio/speakers, and other items may not be covered.

In my opinion, you might as well get the top-of-the-line plan, because ANYTHING has the possibility of crapping out on you
