John, the Mutang up to 2004 used the same chassis that was used in the late 70's! That chassis was over 25 years old. You can't do that in car business nowadays. The 2005 Mustang was THE 1ST Mustang to have it own chassis, as in the past all Mustangs used someone else's platform (64.5 was a Falcon, etc). I still don't know what your aiming for here. So a GT Mustang loaded with options is close to $30,000. Its still a bargin for what you get.
Something I think about when comparing to the previous models was what the average age for those purchasing a GT. It seems (my impressions only) that there might be more people over 35 rather than under who would be able to afford them now vs. previously.
I remember thinking that my Mach 1 was "expensive", but I suppose it is all relative, especially when you compare to other manufacturer's performance cars and the previous Mustang. LBJay's post comparing the '97 Cobra to the '07 GT is a great example of that.
