If you don't have a vin# then your order is not "in".

I have seen you post about this with frustration, and I would think that your dealer needs to give you an exact date he believes your car will be pulled.

There is an almost exact rhyme and reason to these events.

You are just not being given the reason.
Hey BEK, I appreciate the feedback. I'm sorry if I've come off as being frustrated about this in previous posts. I'm not personally frustrated with my own order yet. It's only been 3 week's.

Thanks to your previous posts, I understand that until I have a VIN# I have nothing.

But it would be correct to say that I'm frustrated at what I read. Just look at this thread, there are dates all over the place. That's where the appearance of no rhyme or reason comes in.

I certainly take notice at your wording of being an exact rhyme and reason to these events! If by week 5 at the latest, I don't have a VIN#, I'm going to push for a hard date.

This all depends on what your dealer has allocated to them to sell. If I take 50 orders this week but only get allocated 5 per month, the last orders don't get pulled for 10 months. Then from that point there can be a 6-8 week wait.

Your dealer should know their current allocation and unfilled order status. Like BEK says, there is a rhyme and reason. Most dealers are just afraid to tell you it's going to be 3 months, 5 months or whatever. They'd rather lock you in now and figure you don't want to start over somewhere else by the time you get annoyed so you'll wait it out.

I ordered on a Thursday. My salesman told me that they were being polled that night. I don't know how many they are allowed on their first allotment for stock, but I believe I was the first order for them. So I either made their first allotment or got very lucky. Now since we are hearing tons of different stories around here there may be a hold placed on all Sonic Blue GT's with standard wheels due to a shortage in air valve caps for the tires.

I'm not counting on anything to be the actual truth until I am driving away in my new Mustang.

Don't know if this matters, but this is whats off the top of the Vehicle Order Confirmation: Order No: 0001, Priority: 10, Order Type: 2, Price Level 515

VIN 1ZVFT82H259112227

-Ken
My Vehicle Order Confirmation is identical except that the Order No: is L001 vs 0001. Does anybody know what that means?

If there was a hold on anything, I don't think they would have pulled your order and given you a VIN. What date did you order?

Thats what happened to me. I ordered one in July and just found out a week ago that my order was not allocated. And might not be until mid-Nov. Apparently, the dealer knew this before I originally walked in the door.

But I am going elsewhere. Felt that was dishonest to let me think mine was coming on the first shipment. Then telling me a few months later that they ordered their first allotment before I ordered mine.

So I think I have found one getting here sooner. I am still working with this second dealer before I completely pull out from the first guy.

It is frustraing when you ask questions and get a run around, until a few months later. Then they tell you info they knew back when you started.

And why do people get upset with car dealers? I know there are good ones out there. I have met them before.

The Ford system now says my car has been serialized and is awaiting a build date and eta. Ordered on Sept 25 which means it entered the system on Sept 30th since ford down loads the info on Thursdays.

That does make total sense, and on the one hand I can almost understand them not wanting to delve into the whole ordering process with every customer, on the other, if they know it's going to be months before an order gets pulled for production, they ought to disclose that up front.

To this point everything I've heard from MY dealer has been spot on. They have been saying all along that they won't have any GT's till the end of October, and lo and behold they were just released to convoy this week. Their first V6 should be here any day now and coincides with availability seen on FordDirect.com.

3 weeks in, I'm not too concerned. But if by the end of October mine hasn't been pulled, I'm going to want to know when they expect it to be pulled.

I don't know anything about the difference in the order # listed at the top of my sheet. I assumed that it meant 0001 = the 1st 05 of Mustang. I also have another order # of 5283 which I might assume as the 5,283 order placed by the dealer for all vehicles. Who knows??

As far as the hold....I was joking about that. We hear so many rumors of why the cars are not being produced, released. The next thing you know is that all the cars on the lot are being held up because an employee lost a contact and they want to find it..

I ordered 9/23.....Have the VIN listed above...and scheduled build date of 10/25 (or 10/23 per my dealer).

Hey KenP I ordered on July 7th and my VIN is only 7 numbers before yours at 11220. Allocation is the reason for this. You obviously ordered from a dealer who either hadn't ordered yet or had good allocation...enough to push your order through quickly. My car also has a build date of 10/25 so that puts us well into November at the earliest to get our cars.

I am very tempted to just go to another dealer and buy one off the lot. There are at least 8 dealers here in Utah that will be receiving cars in the next few days that are as yet unsold. The one I am looking hard at is a Redfire GT with all options including the red accent interior.

My dealer states that I'm the first GT order for them so hopefully that is what the L001 means.

A lost contact! Oh no, that means no deliveries until next year! B)

Keep us posted on your progress Ken.

Karpro,

Is it really as straightforward as that? The impression I got from my dealer, who so far has seemed very reputable and knowledgable, was that Ford was much more unpredictable than that. Some months they may get 5, other months 2, others 8, etc.

Does Ford truly allocate a fixed number per month per dealer?

It is straight forward, but I used the 5 a month as an example. It does vary month to month but your dealer should have their allocation numbers for the next 3 to 6 weeks if not longer. I know if I'm sold out of allocation or not. So it shouldn't be a mystery as to how long it may take. If I have allocation, I can tell you what week it's available, if I don't have any available allocation, I know it can't possibly get pulled prior to a particular week.

The big problem is that most want to just get you locked in.

Karpro,

Thanks for the info. I find your posts very useful and informative.

I was at my dealer last night and we were discussing the locking in you mention. She even had a term for it that slips my mind right now. She said that some dealers play the game where your order gets delayed for months and then they offer to sell you a stock one that is very similar for significantly more money. She said many people end up buying it because they simply get tired of waiting.

I'm still not clear on the allocation process. Are the allocations done for the upcoming 3/6 weeks? Are V6s and GTs separate? My dealer has been very forthcoming but they haven't been able to promise any date. I ordered last Thursday (10/7) and they submitted it that night. They said that it was the first GT that they ordered. As of today the order has not yet been pulled (hopefully next Thursday). My VOC has an Order No. L001 and Priority: 10. Another poster stated that they thought the L001 meant that it was the first GT ordered by the dealership. Is this true?

Thanks again for the info.

I asked my dealer about this number too. Mine is 1001 and he said it is just a dealer inventory number kind of like their stock number. Maybe something like this but it has no bearing on the actual order as far as AAI is concerned.

Oh well. I still hope that I am really the first GT for the dealer and that it gets pulled soon. As long as the IUP doesn't delay me...

I got a VIN # and my updated DORA today. There is no Priority Code, but it is listed as "Sub to Pla." Is that typical? Does the priority code become obsolete after it gets submitted?

My understanding is that when it gets pulled (submitted to plant) the VIN is assigned. The Prioirty Code goes away since this was only used to decide which order gets pulled next.

When did you order yours?
