Hey all I'm new to the forum but I've been fan of the site for awhile now. Anyways I,m starting out the process of buying my first ever Stang I'm going with a Black w/silver racing stripes 06 V6 w/Pony Package (of course) Mods I have planed are Dual Exhaust either a Magnaflow or GT take off, CAI, rear gears, even more beefer supension, and hotter plugs and plug wires. And just a couple apperances mods but anyway I do have very very very stuipd ? to ask again this is my first new car so win I place my order at the dealership I would assume that even though I wont be getting my ride for atleast 4 weeks I still have to pay for it then and not when Imactually picking it up just curious about that I'm trying to save up for a good down payment and I would like to know what kinda of time frame I'm looking at plus the dealership I'm ordering it at has a promo goin on right know free tires for as long as you own the car. So if anyone can give the info that would be cool

John,

If pre-approved, you can usually wait for the financing to start at or around the 1st of the month AFTER delivery.

IMHO - Recommend you "Re-think" the V-6 decision, if you plan on "Massive Modding". The V-6 puts you behind from the start and you can only go so far. Go with the GT, pay the extra $$$, or else you might be disappointed later down the road.

When you order you are not agreeing to buy it yet, so you don't have to do any actual buying yet until the day the car arrives. Depending how the dealer is, they may ask for a ordering charge which is refundable if you choose not to go along with the deal. This can be a few hundred bucks or so, if the dealer asks for it.
GL on the decision, and welcome to the site

LOL!! Trying to save him! Thats beautiful!

@Jps78

You will be ok with the new 05+ V6'S!! Like you said, you have been a fan for awhile. The new V6's are awsome! I can see by your planned upgrades, your looking forward to the adventure.. There are hundreds of us here like yourself that felt the V6 as a foundation is good enough.. Welcome to the club, and we look forward to helping you along the way.. We gotta stick together.. Wardog 07 means well, however he has never been graced with the glory of the 05V6.. Some people cant see, or even understand the glory.. I am glad you have found a way to find it.. Or perhaps the glory has found you!

At any rate, expect guys like Wardog 07 to discourage you as much as possible.. When that happens, guys like me will stand up to Wardog07 and feed him a bone or two! LOL!!

OK . . . you got me.

But my F-150 is a V-6, so I have the best of both worlds now.

John doesn't say how old he is, but if he's a younger driver, the insurance difference between the V6 and the GT could be a major factor as well.

I'm guessing by his poor spelling and grammar, that he is probably still a teenager. If I am wrong, I would also recommend that either he go with the GT or buy the V6 and never, ever test drive a GT. While my GT was having warranty work done at the dealership they gave me a V6 loaner and I was thoroughly disappointed. I could tell that it had more power and better handling than the previous generation's V6, but, it was just outclassed by the GT. Just my two cents.

Good point. When I added my son to my insurance, it doubled !

Full coverage on 2 x 2005's (ME) = (Son) 1991 BMW 3er Liabilty only :bang:

Very true. I am 23 and in the DC area. Insurance for my V6 is $1700 per year. If I had gotten the GT insurance would have been $3890 per year!!!

Jps78, you will do all the paper work and make your down payment the day you pick up your car, not when you order it. Also, i think you should add SCT/Predator tune as the first thing on your planned mods list.

I was wondering why you need to order a V6 John. Here in Arizona, I see V6's in every Ford lot I pass.

Wardog - I just noticed you were a Sar' Major. I was a lowly E-4 in Hohenfels, Germany many moons ago.

I must admit, that I waited and searched high and low for a RED 05 GT.. One day after work around 6PM I got the call.. a local dealer said they had a RED 05GT 5spd.. I was so excited I ran out of the house and shot down there.. The car was beautiful.. I test drove it, and thought it was nice.. Parked it, and was on my way to sign the papers.. As the salesman and I were walking to the office, another salesman started up a V6 which the dealer added a custome dual exhaust to... It was much louder than the stock GT exhaust, and I uttered an obsenity which was WTF is that Larry.. Larry being my salesman.. He said, oh thats just a V6 with a custom exhaust.. I said really, mind if I drive it? He said ok.. Snatched the keys from the other salesman, and we took off..

Today I own a V6.. As you can see, I cut the story short because we all will have a different point of view on this.. This is my first V6 Mustang ever.. If you would have asked me 2 yrs ago would I consider owning an 05V6, I might have socked you..

No matter what is said about the 05+ V6 Mustangs, they are good fun cars.. A GT is better, but at the time not good enough to justify for me.. Now granted a GT will give you lots more upfront, which now in retrospect is a small price to pay.. However, the potential of the V6 can get you put in jail, just as quick as a GT.. Which means, any car over 300RWHP is fun.. The V6 can get their without any engine internal modifications.. In fact, by adding a Turbo you can get to 400RWHP without any internal engine modifications.. So its good enough for me...

To this date, we have yet to see or hear of a 05+ V6 which blew up its motor when tuned properly.. No head gasket stories, no cracked pistons, or blocks, no timing chain issues, nothing.. Its all an illusion from those who fear the V6.. LOL!!

All right

How many moons ago? I was an E4 in Ansbach, back in 1982.

PS - oh yes, almost forgot . . . stay on topic . . . they had V-6's back then too

Maybe you experienced tuners can tell me what the price difference is between a fully-loaded, stock GT and a V6 modded to match in performance and handling.

Sar' Major- I was in Hohenfels from December of 92 to November of 94. It was two of the longest years of my life and if I could do it all over again I would of reenlisted and asked to stay there. That poo was FUN! OPFOR RULES!

Are you referring to the 1/4 mile, or Laguna Seca? There is a difference..

I just want to state, that if you can get into a GT for $25K and some change out the door, its a darn good deal..

Overall match. I know getting it to perfectly match would be impossible, but, as close as possible. Up the HP to 300, get the same gears, tune and upgrade the suspension to match, etc. etc.

Yes, I quoted the whole thing.

We know you love your V6 ... But I can think of no single person that would drive a 6 and a GT and choose the V6 -- if they could afford both. If on your test drive, you didn't enjoy the pull of the 8 moreso then the 6, your absolutely freaking crazy.

Take the money you used to mod your V6, add it to a GT, and you'll be faster with more TQ all day everyday. No one denies the 6 has potential at all, but use a little objectivity, please. Yes, your car is nice, Yes I'm sure you love it.

Also, that Turbo has only been in that 6 you've been talking about for what, 3 weeks? The guy who did it even said the stock may not hold up over time.

I dare you to add a turbo to your car (ONLY), tune it, drive it like you stole it, and report in 6 months whats going on. As your car sits now, I knoq quiet a few Altimas and Maximas that would blow your doors off. Potential means nothing unless you actually act on it.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but please ... don't turn *every* *single* *thread* into a V6 lovefest with the same exact quotes, stats, and other stuff.

Okay, back to topic.

My advice is this, if you can afford the extra 4K, go the V8. if you're younger, you'll be happy with the 6, and it'll probably be your best bet as well as far as insurance goes.

Lets be clear an totally honest here..

For those who can order a GT, and be out the door for $25800, thats with tax and license, thats a good deal.. I would advise you to please get the GT..

When I got my car, I was out the door at $23800... The GT would have been $30,500 out the door.. They had it marked up, and it was the only GT on the lot..

Now, what this means is a difference for me at the time of $6700 dollars..

I had to weigh my options.. I had to decide to myself, if the V6 could be made to equal the power of a GT for $6700 bucks.. In my case it can easily... This was my window. I didnt even consider ordering a GT at the time.. I had no idea this website existed...

So I say that to say this.. If you can be out the door on a GT for $25800, get it.. This would have lowered my window to $2000.. I would have bought the GT in a heartbeat..

So this is with the utmost of honesty from me.. Look at my window, of $6700 bucks, and base that on stock performance, and I still think I made the right decision.. I am still happy, and even more so now that the 05V6 have been proven to be effective..

Spend half of it on mods only....

You'll need the other half for repairs if you want to drive it like you stole it...

I had a 6, and now with an 8.... unless I did NOT have the cash...I would go 8..all the way...

6 is nice, quick and economical...
8 is nicer, quicker, and less economical

And yes they have potential...but both cars do.

Depends on what you want....

Sound alone is worth it.

I had a sweet sounding six done up...and it NO way compares to an 8 with some massaging....sweet sweeet sounds

If the 6 is the right choice for you then the most common mods are:

1) Tune - best bang for the buck
2) CAI
3) Dual exhaust

next seems to be:

4) sway bars
5) gears
6) T-lok

I've got the first three in my 6 and it is a very fun car to drive. That being said, if you have to wait for delivery anyway (and you can afford it) then ya might want to check into the GT. If I had known then what I know now, I might have made a different choice.... but then, maybe not. The GT isnt the right choice for everyone. With that list of mods above a V6 pony will give you a lot of fun hours behind the wheel.
