V6 oil pump help

I'm looking for information on the 05 4.0 V6 engine oil pump drive shaft.
Long story short - major rebuild due to chains. runs fine except it sometimes drops oil pressure to 0. Strip engine and clean out strainer of gunk again. Rebuilding It I notice Haynes talking about a 'travel limit clip' but everything I can find on the internet has no mention of this for the 05-11.

Does this shaft require a clip, anyone have practical knowledge of it being fitted or not?

p.s. No lift in the shaft to allow it to rise from the pump when loosely fitted. Not wanting to drop the engine back in only to have to take it out for want of a retaining clip.

Edit: It's called a travel limit clip.

Many thanks, Ug

Here's what it looks like at fordparts.com:
https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/sh...iate-7900967-1

And the shop manual:
http://iihs.net/fsm/?d=149&f=Engine.pdf&p=31

Looks to be that the 'clip' is built into the shaft itself, so unless you have some oddity of a pump shaft that doesn't have that 'bump' in the middle, there shouldn't be any clip. Sounds like maybe there's a problem with the pump or the pump drive up top...

And since you said it was a chain issue, I'm wondering if that pump drive didn't get damaged, as it is involved with the camshaft, so... maybe you need to get that replaced. Also sometimes called the camshaft synchronizer, but Ford calls it the Drive Assembly:

On backorder though...

Thank you houtex,

The shaft I have is just as pictured in your fordparts.com link.
I can find no travel limit clip anywhere for the 05-11.
The previous 1997 engine seems to have a clip built in:

I think from the information I can find that it's maybe a step left-over from something else in Haynes which they may have cut and pasted wrong.
I've gone through the engine quite thoroughly and have stripped and cleaned the oil pump before testing.

It's looking like I'll rebuild and retest, with fingers crossed.

Yes, the older 3.8L engine might would have had the clip, but I'd wager they eliminated that on the 4.0L with the fancier shaft.

Good luck to ya, hope you get it sussed out!
