I heard a rumor today that Ford is going to do away with the Mustang GT, variants and any future SEs to concentrate completely on the V6.
Yeah, and it would be front-wheel-drive and they would change the name to Probe II. [/b][/quote]
stop it you're giving me nightmares

I think Ford dropped the ball and missed a HUGE opportunity to market a new-gen probe based on the Cougar. What a gaping hole in the model line, no 2 door hatch.

I TOTALLY agree.

Forget about replacing the mustang, I'm sure that Ford could have really capitalized on the market by having a next gen Probe (possibly called Cougar) side by side with the stang.

IRS, did you say IRS........... You will be banned in 24 hours. Any final words?

J/K, I actually like IRS. Got my nickname when I shut down an IRS for becoming heated, not because it was an IRS thread. But, people took it the wrong way. Ah well.

How about a small 2-door hatch called the Capri and a plush upscale Cougar based off the Mustang chassis?

That would help take mercury off life support I think..

make the price points/style distincitve enough and you wouldn't steal mustang sales.

IRS is Independent Rear Suspension. In a nutshell, without going into a technical discussion (I'll leave that to the engineers and the more sophisticated among us)
each rear wheel can go up and down all by itself--independently. What that means to us live axle drivers who don't go to the track is that when you're in a corner and hit a bump the rear end doesn't kick out like we all have had happen. Or over a railroad track taken at an angle.

Drag racers don't like it because they get too much wheel hop when they start, and some Cobra drivers who are more into track times than real world handling swap out their IRS for the old live axle.

Most cars today come with IRS, which is why they ride and handle better than the cars from the old days.

And now, in less than 24 hours, I'm gonna get banned by Dan for having uttered those words. Dang. Nice knowing you all. B)

No me gusta el Probe. My mother owned one. I can't complain much because she drove the poo out of for well over ten years without much maintenience and the sumfemale dog refused to die... until i kill.T it. I'm 6'8", we just didn't see eye to eye.

Althoug I do understand about ford having a whole in the model line.

Now that the thunderbird is more luxury than performance again, I guess its back to being the Vettes; rival I think the cougar should be built off the mustang platform to offer another performance car from ford. With the Mercury touch (Read: more chrome) AND my BLUE interior :bang:
