First week with my new mustang and clutch assist spring
First week with my new mustang and clutch assist spring
It's been a great week, I've driven more miles than I care to mention, I've added roush side side splitters, stubby antenna, washed her 3 times, waxed and detailed twice, and daily wipe downs...**** dust...
One thing i noticed was that out of my last two mustangs this one was harder to shift smoothly, I've been having a real hard time regulating the clutch. Granted that I've been driving automatics for the past ten years, but outside of that I have always driven manual. Yesterday, my clutch stuck to the floor twice under hard acceleration and shifting. I immediately began an exhaustive research and found a lot of posts about the clutch assist springs, lots of opinions but mostly people happy with removing the spring.
I said he'll with it, I dove under my dash and pulled it out cleanly in 20 minutes.
I am amazed at the results, yeah the clutch is stiffer, but the even push, clean and precise actuation is a game changer! Within 15 miles I was making smooth shifts without head banging, such a difference. So far I see no drooping, I pulled on the clutch with my foot and it had no give, and no additional travel or uptake as reported by some.
Here are some pictures.

Car looks great! Which year is it? Seems like the 2011/2012's have had more clutch issues from what I (think) I've seen over the past year or so. I've had mine to redline, well, more than a few times and I have yet to have that issue.
I get that but washing a car 3 times in a week and waxing it twice...unless you park it under a waterfall of mud and garbage...that's borderline
imo.
My DIB is getting washed again this weekend if I can find the time - washed and waxed last Saturday. But then parked at work yesterday to find the street being repaved and large clouds of crud wafting over the entire parking lot. Gah! The repaving is going to go all week.
Haha, yes the cleaning is a bit excessive, but I did drive her about 500 miles the first week. I'm more of a daily wipe down and bug remover, once or twice a week detail spray and spray wax twice a month or regular wax once per month type of person.
She's a 2013 with 9800 miles.
The clutch sticking only happened twice, I just didn't want to risk it happening again, and the fix feels so accurate. I do see braided lines, and shifter bushings in the future, only because I'm ****. Lol. But anti sway bars, and lower control arms are higher on the list.
She has sve wheels 175/45/19. Eibach pro kit springs, gt 500 cat back, and street scene lip spoiler.
The power is amazing, breaking loose in fourth gear with traction control on is pretty awesome.
Even though slower, the feeling of acceleration is more exciting than a 911 twin turbo which I spent a while driving...the handling still needs work. The only car I've driven long term with more inpiring acceleration feel is the Tesla roadster, but the mustang exhaust makes up for that. The price vs fun index is excellent.

911 turbo blows away the 5.0... I've got some video footage of one walking by me from ~70mph up
Tesla runs out of steam at like 110?
Not sure I agree with your comparisons, but the Mustang is definitely quick and sounds great.
Yes, the Porsche is much faster than the 5.0... but I'm not sure if you've ever driven one but I made several long trips with a beautiful one. The 5.0 acceleration is much more linear, which I like. The Porsche does not give you its full power until the turbos kick in. So seat of the pants feel from about 0-30 is rather boring... when the turbo kicks in then its like someone us launching u from a canon. In addition, the $200,000 Porsche's exhaust sounds messy. I love the Porsche but I do like some aspects of the 5.0 better.
I drove a Tesla roadster for 6 months since my bro couldn't get in it due to an injury. I sincerely love that tiny toy, its hard to describe what it feels like to have full grip and full torque from 0 rpm and shot putting to 60 in 3.4 3.6 seconds. The only thing that I missed was the top end acceleration and lack of growl, although the jet engine sounding whine was cool.
