I'll see if AutoZone or Advance has them in stock. I may remove my 07 hood liner to see if this will create more clearance for the STB. If so, I may consider buying the Bullitt hood liner.

On my 05 Stang, I took off the liner to install a hood scoop, and never reinstalled it again. Never any issues. Also, it provided additional clearance for my Whipple.

AutoZone has the tool in-stock for $5.99 (the lowest I have seen). It's a Door Panel Remover made by "OEM Tools" and was in the same rack as the plastic trim fasteners/retainers. I have been meaning to get one of these things for other applications.

I've used one of these for many years on classic Mustangs and it works just fine on my 2005 as well. Slide one side edge in to pop the the inner pin, then use both sides across the main body to pull the pin. It's plastic and won't scratch painted surfaces. And it work reallly well on door panels as the name suggests.

Are people really having problems with the under-hood liner? I've got 25k miles on my baby, and the liner (aside from some dust and a few banged-head marks) is practically factory perfect.

Although that does bring up a good question...what's it really for, anyway? Aside from perhaps protecting the underside from corrosion, what's it do? If this was a luxury car I might say it helps with noise, but a muscle car should only be quiet when it's turned off...

That's a good question. Police Interceptors don't generally have the hood liner, so you can't really argue that the liner is to protect the hood from the engine heat, since I have yet to see a used CVPI with hood paint peeling off because of under-hood heat. Our E-250 doesn't have a liner. The S197 hood is made of aluminum or a non/low-ferrous metal so corrosion protection is really out of the question.

I replaced mine because my old intake had rubbed a hole in it. I show my car and the damaged liner looked pretty shabby. When I replaced the intake with a new one, I swapped the liner out as well.

I wanted to remove mine, but since ford opted not to paint the entire underside of the hood (looks nasty in the middle) I had to put it back, again for car show purposes.

Which underhood liner offers the most "clearance" for engine compartment items? I thought I saw a few "flat" aftermarket liners.

The only after market one I am aware of is the WMS, my friend has one and it cracked after a year. I also believe he had rubbing issues with his plenum cover. I think the 2008/Bullet version offers the most clearance out of any option currently available.

Wonder if you could spray the underside of the hood with that RhinoLiner stuff? Would be tough as nails and probably would look interesting, too.

Kind of defeats the purpose of the aluminium hood, doesn't it?

I don't think you'd have to spray it as thick as in a truck bed for it to work. I would only be there to protect from corrosion, vs in a truck bed where it has to protect from impacts. Would probably add some strength to the hood, too.

I have the WMS liner. It developed two small cracks. One was due to the clamp tightening mech. for the CAI tube connececting to the TB was on top - causing it to hit the liner. This was remedied by turning the clamp. The other component, slightly to the driver's side of this one could not be moved. Some rubbing from the Saleen s/c.

To summarize:

7R3Z*16738*G - 2005-2007 GT insulator
7R3Z*16738*H - 2008 GT and the Bullitt insulator

When I ordered mine I did not specify year, so I basically lucked out getting the 08 version. I'll have to add it to my list of "mods".

Noise insulation - nothing else - though with the Bullitt CAI installed it provides a better seal and helps prevent heat-soak from the engine bay.

Then maybe one of the vendors here can fabricate a front end sealer as a mini hood liner.

Take a look at my blog. I got rid of mine in the summer and painted the underneath of the hood. There is another topic I started out there regarding whether or not it is needed and most people agree that it is just suppose to act as a sound barrier.

Then there's always the liners I make from aircraft firewall material, superior to stock.

Link is in the last line of my signature.

What Hoodliner is this? You can paint it with Auto Paint?

I have a 07 V6 and I was thinking of taking the stock liner off and having the under side
painted. or If I could have a hood liner Painted that would be great!

Any info?
