its the flex-all in the paint on the plastic body parts that make the colors slightly off like someone else said, and its not that toyota or honda does it right when you see there bumpers matching. if you notice older import cars like that will have paint chipping off the back bumpers or from the front, (and they match in color) its because they did not add the flex to the paint so it matches perfect but anytime you bump something the paint wil chip and flake causing you to spend more money repainting the bumppers in the long run, sorry if im not making sence its late and im tired lol
This makes alot of sense to me. My 2000 Acura matched but the paint on front fascia chipped VERY easily. My Mazda (which I assume uses the same process as the Mustang since they're built in the same plant) is far more resistant to chipping than the Acura was.

Was this a problem on the 2005's as well? Can anyone tell me if its noticeable in Legend Lime? Thanks!
Yes mine has a slight variation as well but you can only see this in the right lighting .From what I can see this is with all the cars but the lighter colored ones or pearl based painted/metallic ones show up more .Not a biggie only one of my friends who is extreamly picky caught on to this .

Mine is Screaming Yellow and there is a variation in the color between the bumpers and the body. Its unfortunatly NORMAL for there to be a slight difference. Different material... bumpers painted separately from the body... it happens. You could have them repainted... but even then I'm guessing they won't be a perfect match. My good friend has a Screaming Yellow Coupe and his also has a slight variation in color. I've also noticed it on a L.L. and on a Redfire. The only ones I've seen not have the variation were black...

I manage an autobody shop and we have this problem from time to time, more often on light colors, silver, beige, gold, light grays,etc..
The problem is this:the bumber cover is plastic and the fender is metal,so paint and the metallics lay down differently.Plastic bumper covers tend to have a slight static charge to them and the metallics tend to "stand up" when sprayed on as opposed to laying flat on metal surfaces.
We do paint bumpers off of the car, but they are both sprayed with the SAME paint at the SAME time as the bumper is on a stand in the booth in front of the car.
Our customers often complain of this condition but there is not much that can be done. I have even had our paint rep down to my shop to paint a bumper for a customer who just will not accecept it,and even he could not get the two surfaces to match perfectly.
So by complaining to Ford to have your bumper repainted Im afraid is probably not woth your trouble and the bodyshop may have your car for a day or two and you might still not be satisfied with the results.
So dont worry about it dude, just enjoy you premuim machine for the pure DRIVING joy you get from it.

Just one opinion from someone in the paint and body biz.
Agree 100% and I have seen it on just about every brand car as well. Some VEHICLES have bumper covers with acute angle changes at the joints so its impossible to see, but blended covers almost always show a mildly different hue. I can see our G35, CRV, and the Maxima(all metallics) out front have it, just poking around the used cars a minute ago smoking a jack.

EDIT: add a grand caravan, escape, corolla, Mazda 6, new beetle, civic, LS, pt cruiser, and a Concorde to the list.... Its cloudy so it shows up quite well today.

EDIT2: focus, crown vic, sebring, ram 1500, outback, wrx, trailblazer, RSX, darn....I smoke too much

These are pretty darn far off although the pic doesnt show that well:

I had this problem with my 2000 GT. My buddy who is a baody shop manager told me that the cars and bumpers are painted at seperate locations so there is some variance in the paint and they aren't exactly a perfect match. Look at most of your Hondas and Nissans and you can really see the difference there.

Too bad you didn't spot this at delivery, but I would go back and hem and haw with your dealer to get it fixed.

I can totally tell the difference when I enlarge the photo. And if it is because the the material difference, Ford should of corrected that somehow. The Satin Silver, or anyother paint for that matter doesn't do the two-toning...Why should this one? You're not being too picky. I'd be the same way, if your paying good money for your car, or in my case, my dream car...You should get everything done right.

My silver 2003 Accord Coupe had bumpers that where a shade off and Honda said it was normal. When it got hit and I had the bumpers replaced the autobody shop I went to actually matched the bumpers better.

Yes, black rocks, but I've had several black cars in the past and I quickly learned I'm not devoted enough to keep it looking clean all the time.

After reading this forum got nervous about my 06 order with Tungsten paint. Went to the local dealer who had one on the lot, yes there is a color difference but only when you get real close, like everyone is saying not as much metallic on the bumpers. The interesting thing is every other car with metallic paint had the same problem. Was thinking maybe Ford doesn't bake their bumpers after painting, causing the metal flake to settle out?

Jim
And I'am staying with the Tungsten still love it!!

Hey Jim welcome. I see that was your first post. I've come to the conclusion that slight two-tone paint schemes is the unintentional result of many manufacturer's painting, including Ford. I'm not real happy about it, but I'm more concerned about the Dealer screwing up a re-spray of the bumper. So, I'm just going to live with it, though I will notify Ford and the Dealership.
Overall, I love Tungsten Grey and would order it again if I had the chance!
Enjoy your car when it arrives. Cheers. FalconDude
