I just found this during lunch:

There is actually a Velcro spot that the handle sticks to!!!
Speaking of Velcor, I'm going to velcro that crate in place too.
[/b][/quote]

I wondered what that little circle velcro was for, but didn't spend any time to figure it out. If the car actually came home with the handle attached to it the first time I would have known. Thanks!!

Didn't find anything that might have been causing it to open by itself. The light isn't securely in place and I couldn't figure out how to secure it, but it's no where near touching the latch.

It doesn't have to actually touch the latch. All it needs to do is touch the sheet metal of the trunk lid...

Thanks. I'll look at it again.

I couldn't get it to pop back in though. Any tips?

My first thought is check to make sure there's a couple of 'springs' on the bottom side of your trunk lid. Mine fell out.

My handle doesn't stay stuck to the velcro at all.

It's just slips in the hole and has the little plastic tabs at each end to hold it in place. Fairly straight forward if my memory is serving me well tonight. I would check the light and make sure the tabs are not bent in or broken off.

Mine has little metal clips that hold it in. Or at least they're supposed to. Can't get the clip to push up inside there.
I'll try to take pictures tomorrow.
Thanks for the help.

She wanted to. She was 7 at the time, she thought it was fun. We didn't even have to tell her what to do. She said the handle was the only thing she could see in the dark trunk so she just pulled it.

I always wondered if a kid would actually know what to if they ever did get locked inthe trunk... guess they do.
