Transmission

Picked up my car yesterday. It is a 5 speed.

When I shift from 1st to 2nd it makes a small grinding noise. I have found that if I hold the clutch in, pull the gear shift lightly about 1/3 of the way into second I can feel the gears messing and then I can pull it into 2nd with no noise. Takes about a second or so to mesh.

Has anyone else had this, is it because it is new and needs to wear in, or do I need to have this looked at?

Thanks for the help.

Also, intermitently the pass airbag off light comes on and goes off, anyone seen this?

beat it till the trans falls out. Then get a hole new trans. It may be you just have to get use to it and a little break in.

Do you have anything at all in the passenger seat? If not, the pressure sensor under the seat may be defective. It shouldn't blink on and off.

My stick tranny does the same noises when cold and shifting from 1-2. The dealer will tell you this is "normal."

My advice would be to take the car to the dealer when it is cold, the noise will be louder and maybe they will do something about it.

I notice the light is intermittent when I have a passenger only, but it comes on for about 5 -20 seconds once every couple of minutes. Gremlins I guess.

The trany seems to be improving after 120 miles, maybe it will work itself out.

The light sounds like a faulty sensor. Take it in and have it checked out.
