Traded in the GT for a GT500 yesterday

You will say that right up until you drive a GT500
Like I said in my first post, You will say that right up until you drive a GT500...
Then you could NEVER say it again, not with a straight face anyway.

Actually outperforming a stock gt500 is not that hard. As the video below explains.. This GT is only putin 370 at the wheels and its still close to the gt500's street performance ( not dyno numbers).. I would still take a gt500 over a gt any day because of its potential..

So a lot of us Mustang GT guys are up to 475rwhp or 550 flywheel, @ around 3620lbs, with fully changed out suspensions. That would be the equivalent of a GT500 needing to be at 595-600 flywheel HP. What pulley will you go to and what suspension add ons will you make to get the car up to where a lot of GT's already are? Erik

The GT500 is SO MUCH MORE than 500 horsepower
BANG for the BUCK, nothing on the planet comes close to comparing to the FACTORY warranted 500 horsepower GT500. The only guys arguing otherwise do not have one.
My GT500 Weighs 300 pounds more than a GT, the extra 200 Horsepower and flat torque curve more than make up for that.
Anyone building a comparable car out of a $30,000 Mustang GT faced with the cost of parts (and labor), to change the engine, exhaust system, 6 speed transmission, brakes, suspension, wheels and tires, leather interior, seats, dash, steering wheel, gauge cluster, rear view mirror and all body parts, bumper front & rear, lights, head & fog, grill and hood will be well above the cost of buying a brand new GT500, By the time you actually build a truly comparable car out of your GT you will have spent well over $50,000, more than a GT500 with a blower upgrade, and you still won’t have a GT500 or a warranty.
You really need to drive both, I do.
Again, NOT A SIGNATURE..
The GT500 is SO MUCH MORE than 500 horsepower.
Besides, for the same money you spent to get to 550, I can make over 750 at the crank on my factory hand built race engine (that is good for 1000+ horsepower) without changing any internals.
Go drive a new GT500 then get back to me on this.

Not to mention just a few mods and the GT500 can have sooo much more than 500hp. A 475rwhp GT with a stock block is pretty much maxed out on hp unless you go with forged internals. Then your talking about throwing more $$$ at it to get more hp out of it.
Don't get me wrong there are many GT's out there that can outperform the GT500 but those individuals have plenty of cash wrapped up in them too.

So is the Mustang GT by its own right. Without a doubt it is on a market by itself.
This might be a good time to cease rubbing the GT500 on the Mustang GT owners' faces. If this matter is all about status then comprising a bit of class should be part of it.

This thread seems to be taking a turn for the worse...It was not started as a "rubbing the GT500 on the Mustang GT owners faces". It was a "yippie for me" I was finally able to get a GT500 and get a good deal on it.
Sorry it turned out this way. Maybe it should be a locked thread so it can go away before it gets ugly.

My gt is supercharged, looks pretty nice, and has an amazing exhaust so i'm sure I would like it but I would not be like super amazed....

I have a '07 GT but I'm under no misapprehension that I would like a GT500 more. V6<GT<GT500 thats just the way it is. I've got no problem with it. I want one, but I can't do it right now so I'll wait for the next generation of SE's.

The point is everybody has their own priorities. Having a very fast and agile road course car is still more effectively done by fitting out a Mustang GT. You make no comprimises going from a C6 to the Z 06.
I love the GT500, but it comes with more weight and a roots style blower and an minimal suspension upgrade, so if you want to say that their is no looking back once you've driven a GT500, which I have, it depends on why you like the Mustang platform in general. Erik

28k--- (generally speaking for a GT)
45k--- AT LEAST for a GT500
I've got upgraded suspension, a Saleen blower, aftermarket wheels... and I'm STILL nowhere NEAR 45k (I paid 27k for my 07)

I assume you mean adding the whipple, building a long block, upgrading suspension, upgrading interior etc. Right?

Here's where I was with my car when I traded it (at least all that I can think of off the top of my head:
$28,000 - 2006 GT
$600 - springs, shocks\struts
$680 - CAI tuner\tunes
$1400 - GT500 front facia
$900 - hood (including paint)
$150 - painted tail lights
$30 - headlight tint
$140 - SHR rear medallion
$1260 - wheels and tires
$230 - GT/CS side scoops (painted)
$240 - Roush louvers
$380 - Roush rear wing
$160 - rear window tint
$20 - shortie antenna
So that puts me at $34,190 without a whipple. Add a whipple...close to $40,000. GT500 - $47,000

Not exactly, just adding a whipple....What I already had in mods on my car plus the expense of a whipple I would have been about $40,000 into it. So for me I preferred to spend a few thousand more and get a GT500. I suppose a few thousand was incorrect more like several thousand but you get the idea.

Yeah I haven't added up what my car has cost but I'm sure it's somewhere around the 10k range so that puts me at 37k, but either way if I was already looking at 40k and could get a GT500 for 47k and I could afford it I'd pull the trigger myself man.
Anyway congrats to an awesome looking Cobra. That's the exact color combo I would want. But your old GT WAS bad ***
