This is too funny
A good friend of mine is a dyed-in-the-wool Chevy man. When I first met him, I still had my '95 Taurus SHO and the first thing he said when he saw the car was "well, I guess Ford had to resort to a Yamaha engine in order to make some real horsepower!". I mean the guy wouldn't even look at a Ford. He still owns the '72 Vette he bought new. The other day I actually heard him say to someone "Have you seen the new '05 Mustang? That's got to be the coolest new car I've seen and definitely the bast bang for the buck out there." I just about fell out of my chair! He told me that if it wasn't for the fact that he couldn't afford a new car right now (he just bought his wife a new Suburban), he'd buy one. He's constantly bugging about taking him when I test drive an '05. Sounds like he's finally excaped the dark side!

hhehe, i have 2 college buddies that were die hard japanese 9000rpm fans.....(says RUSTANGS are old pieces of garbage) one of them was looking into getting a new car, looking into and test drove the rsx and the 350z.
i somehow convinced him into test driving an 04 mach1 .....
....you shouldve seen the look on his face, now hes not sure he wants to get a 350z or rsx , says he doesnt want to get beat by "an old piece of garbage"
slowly but surely, they WILL convert muhahahaha

Some people think a car must get a little more aerodynamic each time it's re designed-- a little bit more "futuristic" looking. I'm not one of those people.

... Contradiction: That Audi in 'I, Robot' was definitely a good looking car too though.
I agree that Ford did something right in going retro -- again -- with yet another car... if every car was so sleek and dynamic looking like a 350Z or Corvette or Viper, the whole "futuristic" thing would be boring. Oh wait, it kind of is

Well, that'll leave the fogs, different front fascia, dual exhaust, and lower body moldings to contend with, not to mention the different wheels.

G8trStang, I can relate to your friend. I currently own what many here would consider a "ricer", a RSX Type-S. It is a great car, and I bought it when I was still in college. I wanted something rock-solid reliable (Honda), that had decent gas mileage with a sporty edge. It was all I could afford and the insurance was not bad at all. I had grown up loving muscle cars but realized that they were not right for me at the time. Now the RSX Type-S is a relatively quick car when revved like crazy, but that's not how I drive every day to work and back. It just feels like you're beating on the car constantly, if you want to get any performance out of it. This is one of the reasons why I want to get a car with usable torque, so that it will be more enjoyable (especially in traffic with the A/C on). The fact that the new mustang will have much higher quality standards, great styling, great power, and a reasonable price, are the reasons why I am looking forward to the new mustang. My car and other "rice-mobiles" are not bad cars at all; they're just not my style anymore.
Why did you even contend with the RSX. For probably the same price, you coulda gotten a v6 mustang that would still be as quick (or even quicker when modded) as an RSX.
I had to go through the same decisions when I was starting college a couple of years ago. I wantd a gt but couldn't afford it. At first I didn't want a v6 mustang because I always though they were slow (i still do). Therefore, I looked into buying a mitsu eclipse. It was a great car, but didn't have the kind of power I wanted. So then, I finally drove a v6 stang and thats when I realized that its not at all bad. Its got potential. Its not fast, but it gets me places pretty quickly and has good mileage. The best thing is that I could afford it.

I feel refinement is needed with designs that already work, but some freshening is needed with each new generation.
I think it's great to hear a GM-aholic talk good about a Mustang. The vibe I get from the GM guys I hang with is that they think their cars are just high and mighty. They are impressive, but please not by much.
