FiaCobra, while I did not drive the 2005 yet, I am sure it's going to be difficult to say whether it feels less/more heavy than the current Mustang.

Generally and in my experience, all new cars feel "lighter" because of the stiff springs and new struts. When I drive my friend's H2 (as a borrow), it feels lighter than my 1999 Mustang. Yes, I mean that seriously. It -- however -- has just 12,000 miles or something compared to the 115,000 on my 1999 Mustang.

Unless someone has a NEW 2004 Mustang and a NEW 2005 Mustang (and can drive both within 20 minutes), it's very tricky to say whether a 2005 really is -- or feels -- lighter until a year later when the parts are broken-in.

I kinda understand what you're saying about driving a new vehicle thats tight. Hey, wanna drive something thats a lil' broken in and loose? Take my '73 Duster for a spin and tell me what you think! It corners like it's on rails....lol.

Actually, the n00b moniker fits well in a situation like this. Just a few months ago, we had a lot of members give their personal reviews on driving the new Mustang. Exactly what kevinb120 said.

And what's so wrong with speculation? We have car "a" and car "b." The question at hand was to determine which was the better choice. Car "a" has been proven and the performance numbers are definite and presently certifiable. Car "b" is not yet out, but every number related to performance is known. Simply reasoning can help one deduct that a car with a better weight distribution, more horsepower and torque, better gearing, more complex suspension system, and wheels set closer to the corners will yield better performance numbers than the other.

Case closed.

Even though I haven't owned an SN95, I've driven one, so I feel that I have a decent base to compare them. I've also owned a bunch of fox-bodys (see my sig).

Also, I had a great date 2nite with a lovely girl. She doesn't get my obsession with the 05, but she did take a ride on my motorcycle without complaining about me going 40 over the speed limit.

A good litmus test for riding in the 05, if you ask me...

She'll be hooked before she knows it. The 05 is a beautiful baby, and will attract the same. :-)

0-60 in 5 seconds. The weight and bulk aren't much of an issue, and that's without the mods people will do.

0-60 in 7 seconds for the V6. Not bad for a 6. The 4.0 is what I have in my Explorer and it moves that load pretty quick. Good bang for the buck for under 20K. Again, without mods.

Having driven the '05, I can say it is MUCH better in the suspension/handling department than the SN95. It is a very fun car to drive.

That being said, it IS NOT A SPORTS CAR. It is not supposed to be a sports car, it will never be a sports car. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to get that out of their mind. In stock trim, it doesn't turn-in well, it has bad understeer issues, and it still has a lot of body roll (suspension settings for a more comfortable ride). But, the engine (V8) sounds incredible, is very smooth, has a great powerband and is an overall great powerplant.

Compared to more sporty cars, though, it is big, it is heavy, but it has an great v8, it is comfortable, it seats 4 and it is fun to drive around town. How you sort your priorities is up to you.

Lets review the physics here:

Higher weight = bad for handling (slower transitions, more difficult to change momentum, etc.).

Longer wheelbase = bad for low speed handling and feeling "nimble", weight further from "center axis" which makes it more difficult to turn

There is no getting around these basics. While it is a huge improivement (noticeably stiffer chassis, smoother rear end movement, etc.), it is not a corner carver in stock trim.

If you truly are looking for a "rip it through the turns" car, look elsewhere. The Z might be a good fit, good torque, much lighter, much better suspension, 2 seats and much more civilized and refined than the "purly performance" Evo. However, he Z is small and a little cramped (although I am 6'2"), isn't quite as comfortable and has no back seat.

But, you have to drive it for yourself. No one here will be able to tell you if it is "good enough" to measure up to your standards.
