I don't know if this is a re-post, but I want to let her rip. She has 4100 miles on her and I feel the time is right now. I can easily let her loose and swing the back end out without a problem, but to make her chirp in 2nd and lay some rubber on the road in first is the problem I'm having. traction control is OFF the whole time I try and also I have the clutch pressed in and am giving it gas then let the clutch go, but still have no luck. At about what RPM should I let her go to lay some rubber on the road and how the heck can I makeher chirp in 2nd. Thanks for any help !!!

Rev it up to 5,000 rpm. Dump the clutch and let her spin. Let the rpms get up to around 6,000 and then quickly shift into 2nd and you should get more than just a chirp. With the factory tires I laid a 15ft patch easily in 2nd gear. Now with my bigger rims and tires I can still get a good loud chirp but no more 2nd gear burnouts.

Choose poor pavement, use a little less clutch and shift faster. I am amazed at how well this car hooks up...I go pretty easy on mine, on the rare occasion that I do get wheelspin it seems I am risking drive drain damage/decreased clutch life to get there.

At the drag strip last Friday I was able to consistantly chirp the tires in second and third gear. Just shifted as fast as I could when RPMs got up to about 5800. Of course you need a long clear stretch of safe rode to do it on.

I did hit the rev limiter once though

Havent burned out with mine - hate dumping the clutch that hard, but I have heard my tire scrubbing due to the live axle set up when accelerating at a turn from a stop sign....

Yeah I didn't let the RPMS rise that high, next time I will.

i think a 4,000 rpm launch is nice... and practice shifting so that the *second* you have your car in gear your foot is already off the clutch.
My friends schooled me in this super-fun art... and i was chirping the tires into 3rd... and i'd only been driving standard for 2 weeks.

As I have become more and more comfortable driving a std. again, I too was surprized with the 3rd gear tire chirp.

Ran it up close to the red line in 2nd, shifted hard and fast, and "ert" could be heard in third.

Haven't broke anything loose in 2nd yet tho.... not on dry pavement anyway.

Guess I better keep practicing :drive:

The followthrough is important...
A quick shift with not enough gas from 1-2 will squawk but bog....

5K rpm is too high if you are just learning. Try 3000, then 3500, then 4000, etc. You can easily lose control and sling your shiny new car into a tree if you're not used to controlling a sliding car.

As boomer says, followthrough is important, not just revving it high and shifting from 1-2, 2-3. You have to do it quick. After launch, run it up to anything past 4-5K, then lift off the gas ever so slightly AND depress the clutch just enough, usually less than half way, to allow the shifter to go to the next gear, and then back down on the gas AND out with the clutch. These moves need to be one smooth, coordinated effort and done as fast as possible, in a 1/4 - 1/2 second or so, without grinding a gear :bang: ,sometimes your feet can be faster than your hand! All it takes is practice. Road surface has a lot to do with it as well. Some surfaces are good at squealing/squawking, some just grunt or do nothing. This car and the stock tires has pretty good traction as it is. Also, go out to a strip or watch some sportsman class drags on TV and listen to the way the cars sound when the are shifting. You will hear how fast they are shifting. Some people are so good, it sounds like the never let off the gas at all This is usually known as "power shifting"

I didn't try to hard, and only revved to maybe 3k, and I was able to lay rubber for about 30 feet. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw smoke drifting away from 2 black lines. Oh yea, I chirped 2nd pretty good too.

I won't mention how fast I was going before that, or how fast the car will stop from 100. Opps, just gave it away. I'm definitely not going to tell you about where I did this though, but it was the most fun I have ever had, and was the stupidest thing I've ever done.

Why just today,
Coming back from a grocery run....
I VERY easily squawked 2-3 with VERY little effort (4k shift)
Its all in speed....

I STILL to this day push the clutch to the floor (I don't want ANY chance of grinds) and I can do it, you just have to be quick/accurate.
Don't try it if your new to stick, and haven't learned your car yet.
Baby steps

not fully depressing the clutch is hard on the clutch.. and will shorten clutch life. I recommend getting good at shifting fast while pushing the clutch in all the way.

I have 285/30/20 KDW (NT) out back and I lay a 15' patch from 1-2 gear and get a nice chirp from 2-3 gear. But I am power shifting hard and fast every time. I have my foot to the floor all the time and I ram the clutch in @ 6000 in first and as I am pushing the clutch in I am pulling back on the shifter into second and by the time all is said and done the RPM's rise to 6500 and drop on down to 4200 when second hits. And i do the same from 2nd to 3rd gear. I somehow get a faster shift off because the RPM's only rise to about 6300. But it takes guts and a lot of practice to shift with your foot pinned to the floor boards while shifting. I learned from my dad. In his 90GT I can roast the tires in first, second, lay a good patch in 3rd and chirp in 4th.

But I dont recomend power shifting for the novice or beginner. You should have some shifting behind your belt before you try that move. Ill have to take a video of myself powershifting inside and out of the car.
